Maybe I just have ADHD?

Posted by linkadge on March 26, 2020, at 11:24:18

I've been weaning myself off lithium and onto Ritalin. Not only am I noticing no mania, hypomania, rapid cycling etc (not sure I ever had this), but my moods are more stable and I am generally feeling more confident in my abilities.

I am not 100% sure, but perhaps ADHD was mimicking some other disorders. Some studies show that Ritalin can also treat depressive symptoms in people who have ADHD with secondary depression.

What disorders was it mimicking? A little bit of Lithium never hurts. I take 225mg. I have never tried a stimulant. But I tend towards having Paranoia, so it is best to avoid it?

Does it wear off?

ritalin used to advertise as an antidepressant when it came out in the 60s, there were ads. It mildly increases dopamine through reuptake inhibition.

ADHD is fascinating (and a pia if you have it) because it can present symptoms of anxiety and depression, even some emotional lability. People often underestimate it, "oh you're just spacey. If you just concentrate...."

I recall a discussion on ADHD overlapping with borderline symptoms and bipolar. Not borderline personality disorder unless coping behaviors are dysfunctional. (All IMO)
