Dextromethorphan/Bupropion for MDD soon.....

Posted by PeterMartin on December 16, 2019, at 14:18:39

A combo drug of Dextromethorphan & Bupropion has done well in trials. It's essentially Robitussin + Wellbutrin. I used to take Robitussin in excess and it definitely helped my mood a lot. I found taking it w/ Lamictal worked well to leave just the mood enhancing effects (and eliminate the "tripping" part).

Anyway, NDA next year. Sadly I'm sure they'll charge through the roof for it even though it's 2 chemicals that have had cheap generic versions available for ages. I think Nudexda (alzheimers) was a similar repurposing of Dextromethorphan that ran $500+ a month.

Info on it's trial success/NDA next year:

i've taken dextromethorphan, just feels like a nasty drg, but it increases serotonin i've read and actually people have reported euphoria and tipping experience, it does produce euphoria at moderate to higher doses, but don't like robitussin, i used ot know people would walk around with a bottle of robitussin, drinking it like a beer, nasty.

bupropion i don't know how this combo is gonna help people but leave it to the trial results

Dextromethorphan works the NMDA receptor so it's novel in that regard. There are other drugs (new) in trial that work by touching on NMDA.

Cant, you just swallow both as separately pills you think it will help? For me that would be poison.. but whatever floats your boat.

Dextromethorphan (DXM) is also a serotonin reuptake inhibitor. I noticed this myself. It is probably a sigma-receptor agonist too, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

It does work on NMDA. So does memantine, which was so "good" it made me manic. I was having so much fun just from YouTube. Alas, I got impulsive and took an overdose of a few grams, so I'm probably the world record-holder in the category of highest dose of memantine taken.

I'm not sure whether I was trying to kill myself... I guess I was a bit confused.

Hey Peter,

how did you take the DXM without feeling really nauseous and... gross? I tried taking it via "Robocough" and it was horrible, especially for me since I have IBS, which seemingly responded to it. Would tablets be worth a shot do you think?

Many thanks, Pete

Yes, absolutely.

I had an antidepressive response to a dextromethorphan (DXM) pill once. I figured it might be the serotonergic action, because the effect came so soon(*) and the dose was so low.

(*) the NMDA-antagonism comes largely from metabolism to dextrorphan; hence it takes some time till the onset.

DXM also binds to sigma-receptors. I'm not sure whether it is an agonist or antagonist.

For those who have tried this, can you remember how much DXM you took along with bupropion?
