Question for Lamdage22

Posted by linkadge on December 30, 2019, at 12:01:15

Hey,

You took both SAM-E and bupropion. How would you compare these two? Were the effects similar?

You mentioned bupropion caused insomnia. Other than that, was it better or worse for mood than SAM-E?

I was thinking of trying bupropion, but given my experience with SAM-E, I don't want to repeat that.

In my opinion, bupropion is well worth a try, even though it didn't help me, even at doses well over the maximum recommended.

You can't predict your reaction to bupropion from your experience with SAMe. To begin with, they have different mechanisms of action.

There's no guarantee you won't have an adverse experience with bupropion, but the only way to find out is to give it a try. It seems the most likely worst that can happen is that you'll have a bad day or two. Personally, I consider that to be worth the risk.

I think they are different... SAM-e made me crazier. Bupropion did not. It only made me crazy after two weeks without sleep. You may need an additional sleep aid. What is the diagnosis? Does it have to do anything with psychosis or paranoia?

OK. Thanks for the info. Appreciated.

Diagnosis is either depression or bipolar II (possibly with ADHD).

Hmm maybe start out low and see how you react. I had a response to 75mg. What does your doctor think?

Don't have a doctor at the moment (have waited 6 months). Our 'wonderful' health care system here in Canada. My appointment is in January to see if the new doctor will accept/reject me.

That's not good. I would have guessed that Canada is a good place if you need help. I didn't know. The coolest place ever in that regard is the Netherlands.

No. I like to rant. There's a lot of cracks in the system. Long wait times, short appointments, and meds are out of pocket if your employment doesn't cover them.

Im actually considering 75mg of Bupropione, too. I will leave it to my experienced psychiatrist. I may benefit from a tad of dopamine in some areas of my brain!

I'm thinking of moving there. It is mainly a question of money. To begin with, rents are steep.

Yeah, rents are INSANE. We have one of the most bubbly housing markets in the world.

The health care system is misunderstood. We are dealing with aging demographics (like many developed regions) which are taxing the 'free' system. Wait times for many diagnostics and procedures are growing. Our doctor retired 6 months ago and I'm having a difficult time connecting with a doctor. Medications are not covered. If you've got money or insurance, you're fine.

So, I'm in a limbo, no doctor, no psychiatrist, no medication coverage. You can go to a 'walk in clinic' for free, but its not ideal for psychiatric issues.

It's not a bad country to live (in some ways), but taxes are high, rents are high, the currency has weakened in recent years, household debt is in the top 3 countries (relative to income). Ontario too, has a lot of provincial debt and the new government is cutting services left and right.

Oh, I didn't mean I was thinking of moving to Canada, but to the Netherlands. Or Germany; it depends on someone there I know, who could house me.

As for Canada, I suppose that for someone who is not a Canadian citizen, the situation is even worse.

So are you still considering Bupropion?
