atomoxetine works blissfully well at 40mg vs 140mg

Posted by Charles T. on December 23, 2019, at 18:50:54

i was on 40mg atomoxetine and experienced the most blissful experience ever off a drug.. It is better than any schedule II drug you could possibly have meth (desoyxn) or adderall. I also got waves/sensations that made me feel very capable of things I wouldn't normally feel capable about like driving cars and doing computer programming. Anyway, 40mg was from my doctor at the court probation office. When I got off probation I got a new Dr. who recommended I go as high as 140MG so I went from 40->80->100->140MG but I didn't like that I got serious drymouth and I lost the blissful effect of the drug. The sensations and all were not there.

So my last visit I told him to put it back at 40MG the way it was and it has been incredible! I have been on 40mg atomoxetine for 3-4 weeks now and I'm starting to notice the effect again. I'm wondering why 40mg works so well vs 140mg not working as well maybe my receptors were overwhelmed? I like to eat veggies and take good care of my brain so the atomoxetine floods my synapses well. But yeah 80+ mg are no good for me. I also take 20mg of fluoxetine (down from 40mg by the new doctor) and might ask to go back up to 40mg if I don't feel that same effect. So far so good I just don't understand atomoxetine... Why it works so well at 40mg vs 140mg is beyond me.

I recall the first time I took 40MG for a few days (the counselor with probation court bought my capsules when insurance wouldn't cover) and I felt very calm/obedient and focused. I am hoping to get back to that level again with 40mg long term.

Well, 40 mg suits your brain, and 80 mg+ is too much.

And psychopharmacology is mostly a matter of trial and error.

atomoxetine is serotonin and norepinephrine uptake inhibitor, i was on it and i was irritable as hell, went from myself, everything made me harsh, and just feel like getting things done, and that's about it. and i hated it. I read before i started it in 2007, it was a norepinephrine UI, i started it when it first came out in 2002. Low doses seemed .. i was in class a bit more attentioned, but that was about it. Anything above a low dose, was a irritable and dysphoric. Alot of people have reported that.

No serotonin. The main point about atomoxetine (and reboxetine) is that it is a *selective* noradenaline reuptake inhibitor.

Alas, it is also a kappa-opioid receptor agonist.

Atomoxetine will increase dopamine in the prefrontal cortex. The effect of dopamine in the prefrontal cortex is not linear (i.e. more is not always better). So, when you get to the level of optimal increase for you, taking more could actually worsen cognitive performance.

More specifically, working memory works (pun not intended) better when the dopamine is at the right level. alpha1- and alpha2-adrenoceptors are also involved. For the latter, there is guanfacine (Intuniv, Tenex).

right, i knew it was a main norepinephrine uptake inhibitor, yes, then my doctor had told me if effects serotonin too, my previous doctor, so either they didnt know what they were talking about, or did some micro study of atomaxine and said it does effect serotonin, but yes it is a main NRI, i don't why i was told it effects serotonin. Some doctors forget what meds do, because they prescribe different ones all the time.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23933039

but yes it's a NRI, effects serotonin some, when i took it with fluoxetine, it had bad effects, it says not take with fluoxetine. If you google it, i think that's why i was agitated and not in a good mood.

Maybe the radioligand they use in this study is easily displaced. Or maybe atomoxetine has high affinity but low potency as a serotonin reuptake inhibitor.

As far as I'm aware, it does not cause the same side effects as SSRIs.

yes, it is also a NMDA antagnoist or agonist I Hear? Someone suggested Huperazine A as a supplement to augment or potentiate it.

Could be, but not that I know of.

Huperzine A is an acetylcholinesterase (an enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine) inhibitor. I don't know why that would potentiate atomoxetine, but it helps memory; in my experience it most notably enhanced dream recall.

Maybe mirtazapine. Selegiline has an effect too, at least with reboxetine (another selective noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor), but I personally found this combination unpleasant.

Is it contraindicated with Schizophrenia?

Seems to me that it's the opposite. Especially, increased noradrenaline and dopamine in the prefrontal cortex, would seem to be a particularly good thing in schizphrenia.
