seroquel knocks me out

Posted by rjlockhart37 on November 13, 2019, at 0:59:24

i'm transitioning to go up on seroquel and remove zyprexa. In a way, i think its good because i've been it too long. But when i take seroquel at night, like 300mg i would notice ease up in mood, but then sedation and by the time i take 600mg it makes me very sleepy, like almost trying to hit the bed. It suppost to have antidepressant effects, but i don't know seroquel makes me sleepy, then it gets strong to where i have to go to sleep. It's effects are gone by the neext day, it's a good mood controller during a mania, or it provides calm, but it's at the point sometimes where it knocks me out.

does anyone have their experiences with seroquel? do you feel like knocked out, do you feel antidepressant effects? etcc....

hi. pretty much anything that reduces tension and anxiety without causing too many toxic adverse effects will reduce "depression," as measured by psychiatry's numerous scales. doesn't mean it's a mood brightener.

the 300mgs dose is for some forms of depression...I think the studies were Bipolar I, but I'd guess-timate that it'd work in psychotic (unipolar), agitated, some mixed states, etc. thing is...

when one reads the early, early data on quetiapine, before it became a blockbuster, the big, big, big deal was simply: effective as Thorazine, not as mind numbing and dysphoria-inducing.

since exactly this many-- 0 -- neuroleptics have been shown to consistently, reliably improve 'negative symptoms...'

i'd be hesitant to take one, long term, if my 'depression' involved anhedonia, lethargy, fatigue, lack of concentration, lack of drive and initiative, etc. its also worth noting...

neuroleptic induced dysphoria and neuroleptic induced deficit syndrome both overlap with some forms of 'depression,' so...yeah. yeah. not happy pills. :-(

I agree with CE. It seems to me that it is just smart marketing that Seroquel is supposed to be good for depression. However, if you are prone to psychosis it is valuable.

it doesnt havve anti-depressant effects, i take it and i get a slight dyphoria then a feeling want to go to sleep. Seroquel is the only med tken that causes dysphoria with me. zyprexa has anti-depressant properties, same as rexulti, abilify, lamictal

Seroquel (quetiapine) is a strong anti-histamine, which -- like first-generation anti-histamines for allergy -- crosses the blood-brain-barrier. Therefore, sedative effects are to be expected, and there is no way around that, unless you could somehow change your sensitivity to histamine H1-receptor blockade. Of course, taking a stimulant drug may dose-dependently counteract the sedation, but that is kind of counter to the purpose of using Seroquel in the first place.

As for anti-depressant effects: no, not in my experience, but maybe for some people. Search Google for "seroquel drug seeking" and "seroquel q-ball", and you will find that some people go as far as to inject it! Therefore, in some people, it must have subjectively rewarding effects.

Cheers,
