barbiturate opinions

Posted by rjlockhart37 on October 23, 2019, at 0:43:01

i've been doing some extend reseaerch on barbiturates for anxiety and sleep, and most know the reason there not used much anymore is because their easy to over dose on, and the withdrawls are worse than benzos. But looking through the ads, butabarbutal was a main anxiety barbiturate medication, phenobarbital was long acting, and sedating, also used for anxiety. Mostly the rest like secobarbital and amobarbital are for sleep. There more sedating, and the difference is benzos increase the frequency of choride ion intake where GABA moduates.

barbiturates increase the duration, rather than frequency. Which means...benzos have a cieling effect where freqeuncy will only let certain amount of ions to go into. Barbirutates hold the duration and keep it open, that's why they give more of a peaceful, sedation. Benzos are more relax and relief. And also having a long duration that's why it's easy to over dose, because prolonged duation of GABA-operated chloride channels. It can flood the brain to where it goes lose respitory, coma, or death. They usually use pentobarbital in lethal injection.

It's just htere not used naymore i guess because of their history of drug abuse and deaths related to over dose. There much easier to over dose on than benzodiapines. Not too many people today take barbiturates for anxiety, only phenobarbital would be a choice, and it's usually not preferable.

anyone ever thought or had thoughts about barbiturate benefits?

my only experience with barbiturates is taking generic Fioricet, which has a -small- amount of butalbital in the mix, to relive tension and get the pain level down. I have never had a major migraine problem, just relatively mild ones on occasion...and it worked well. :-)

i was curious, so I did a goodrx search. butalbital is $$, but Schedule III and available...

Seconal is back, Schedule II and priced sky high $$$$. Maybe Seconal is for the assisted suicides, where that's legal? might explain the ridiculous pricing.

i think meprobamate would probably be a better option...its $, but available, schedule IV. less toxic, effective muscle relaxer, more sedative than anything else, but then again...

the benzodiazepines are sedatives, too...and they can cause rage reactions, disinhibition, increases in aggression and straight up violence (not always, obviously...but sometimes...), and...

some benzodiazepine ODs can be fatal, such as temazepam. poly-drug ODs often involve benzodiazepines.

personally, i avoid all flavors Mother's Little Helpers. bad experiences with clonazepam tapers, amnesia from lorazepam...inter-dose anxiety, drug-induced depression, loss of interest in -life- , etc...

i think they're all just sedatives. placidyl, doriden, Quaaludes, etc...

downers, downers, downers. temporary fix if needed...at most, maybe a short(ish) term solution...

just my opinion, of course. :-)

benzos defiently are safer i think that's been known since the 1950s, barbiturates open the GABA cholride ions they keep the gate open, benzos increase the frequency of it entering, but barbiturates can keep the gate open and flood with sedation and peacefulness, but also dangerous, coma, death, that's the main thing barbs have that are not in favor for

butabarbital was a anxiety barbiturate i read, i was researching and they used advertise butabarbital for anxiety and sedative in the 60s

meprobamate is expensive in US, but i was looking up, some people wrote on their experiences that it is theo nly thing that helped, it has more barbiturate like effects than a benzo effect

Barbiturates are more a knock out than a peaceful sleep, and they decrease the pain threshold, or so I read once.

barbiturates hold duation of GABA-operated chloride channels, it keeps the gate or sites open for alonger period time with the clordie ions, benzos only do frequency, barbiturate are ... i've taken any but i've done research, your also more stumbly and tipsy, there was a poster here that said they compared temazepam with secobarbital, said temaeapm produces relaxation and feeling natural feeling of going to sleep. Secobarbital they said them sleep like a baby, or deeper sleep.

I think phenobarbtial is only main barbiturate that useful today for grandmal siezure prevention. They do use secobarbital for sleep, but i don't know anymore than that.

I used Primidone to treat essential tremor. I never found it to be sedating.
