Which benzo has the least cognitive side effects?

Are they all the same in this regard or are there differences?

On paper, some of the BZDs are known for having more potent amnestic effects, e.g., lorazepam.

I've tried almost all of them, and I found Tranxene (clorazepate) -- took for a week -- to be very "clean". I returned to clonazepam (been on for years now), however, which I find to have minimal cognitive issues. Everything is dose- and tolerance-dependent, though, of course.

Things also change over time. I took lorazepam for many years with great results -- more energy and less fog -- but then when I retried it in late 2017, I became quite intoxicated at work and barely remembered the day.

Since YMMV, I think a key point to highlight is that anxiety itself can be quite cognitively impairing; whichever agent relieves your symptoms the best may turn out to be the most clarifying and cause the least disruption.

Best of luck to you, and of course let us know what happens!

So Lorazepam makes you more forgetful than others? Because that is what I am using right now. I liked clonazepam.

That was my experience.

i found xanax more altering, over all. affected my mood, outlook, behavior...blah. ativan got rid of agitation, but now i see...

it brought on a case of drug induced stupidity, too. blah.

klonopin has the long action going for it, but its also a real downer on mood, over time. maybe a low to moderate dose of xanax xr?

librium...more of a sedating muscle relaxer than anything else, for me. i could see it being helpful in people who can adjust to the sedation and for whom anxiety brings with it muscle tension, headaches, etc. the stupidity level was low, if i recall correctly.

that would be librium, it's a weak benzo, very weak and requires very high doses to be effective as other benzos, it used to used for alcohol withddrawl and others, but it's very old benzo.

well not a weak benzo, i havent been on librium so i don't know, but i've read on the net it's effects are not like xanax and others, it has a subtle effect and muscle relaxant. I think the highest dose medically used is 300mg. And librium comes in 15mg, 25mg capsules, so you would have to take alot of them to reach higher doses.

When I switched from clonazepam to Librium in 2 years ago, it was my experience that Librium brought upon a significant amount of cognitive impairments that I could not tolerate, so I would up going back to Klonopin. YMMV, of course. The Librium was, though, qualitatively less sedating, which I welcomed at first before I began not to be able to think straight.

I took lorazepam for many years, but I don't recall it having any effect on my memory.

Sorry...

yeah, librium was the first benzo on the market. I don't know why i thought it was less cognitive, but from what read it is least sedation, very subtle in effects compared to other benzos

You were probably not binging on it for social situations

I was at a seminar Fr-Sa from university and I took 4-5mg in advance. I had amnesia pretty badly. I decided that I cant do this anymore. On Tuesday I had really bad almost psychotic anxiety and I was craving for more. Didn't take anything since that Saturday 09/28 and i decided that I will be getting no more than 10mg Lorazepam for 3 months. My doctor also thinks that this kind of benzo use is problematic. I hope that research will help some day.
