Parents drank and smoked too much@conception?

Posted by Lamdage22 on October 3, 2019, at 10:59:21

My mother just told me she was made on new years eve. I have never heard of the notion that Nicotine and Alcohol can mess up your genome! Also, some scientists say that Nicotine does lasting damage. So you can't just quit 5 days before conception and be fine.

What do you guys think?

i think any chemical that acts on your developing brain could be harmful! also think about why people drink and smoke, its to deal with stress and anxiety often, if that is your parents that means you are genetically predisposed to the same.

Your birthday is in September?

There are a zillion things that can change who we are while in the womb. Unique is the way to think about it inmho.

Some of the most successful people who've ever lived had bipolar, autistic tendencies, schizophrenia, etc. I don't think you can try to piece together the days what happened around you in the womb and learn anything insightful. Better to try to feel happy today.

Yeah, nicotine causes changes to the epigenome (not exactly genetic damage per se). This can get passed on for a few generations. To be honest, I would think that nicotine consumption would be the lesser evil compared with alcohol or harder drugs.

the reason why: boyh alcohol and nicotine are available to the public, unrestricted. And when you go into bars, you see people smoking and drinking, its because both nicotine and alcohol have euphoric effects. And that's why there so popular because there not controlled substances. Say like sitting at home or at a bar, having a cold beer or tequila, some people add nicotine to that because it makes it more pleasant, nicotine is a dopamine releaser, it stimulates the pleasure centers. Like after a stress day, a cigarette is definitely a requirement for smokers, same thing with alcohol. Both of them combined gives a euphoric effect

But still, you don't get psychosis from nicotine! I just wonder if problems of some people are based on the fact that they have been made in an alcohol-filled night...

alcohol filled nights, are fun with me, but then you get depressed and find yourself the next day trashed and almost unable to function, hangover. Getting drunk every friday night is a common thing with some people. Alcohol does effect, you can become not yourself and turn into nasty and abusive, it lowers your inhibitions, so your more reactive to emotional things and then get angry or do drunk like feelings. They definitely can effect relationships

I think it is reasonable to assume that nicotine and alcohol might do some sort of modification to health and genetics, depending on the time frame involved and the dose sizes involved.

I do not believe any of us have our psychiatric troubles because our parents smoked or drank. I have no evidence to back that up. I just think there are way heavier toxicities and environmental factors that mess us up way worse than bad habits of parents.
