Kaiser doc wants to take me off meds that work!

Posted by Frustratedmama on April 15, 2012, at 12:05:59

Ok I am majorly stressing! I am taking Prozac trileptal adderall xr and klonpin in am and Ambien and trileptal at night which has finally stabilized me! Now new pdoc (due to insurance coverage) wants to change all my meds! What can I do? Someone please help! It has taken 22 years to get a combination that controls my rage and my depression and now it's going to be all for nothing! I can't change insurance companies as this change is due to job change and I can't afford insurance on my own!

Is there another doc in your network? Why does this doctor want to change meds that are working. Can your original doc talk to this bozo?

If it can't be resolved I would immediately file a complaint with your state agency of medical examiners. I'd also contact them to see if this idiot has unresolved complaints against him.

He is the only one in network and he is refusing to let me stay on three scheduled drugs - he feels they counteract act each other and wants to see how I will do off of them ( believe me I don't want to be on them!) so here we go to destabilization, irritability, rage, impulsiveness, and Dysphoric land- I have lived this horrible wretched life since college/ why would he want to put me back there? I will definitely file complaint

Maybe some of the med guys will chime in here but this is what drug check had to say. You are on a pretty low dose of Adderall XR.

My meds have way more warnings than yours. :)

That totally stinks. Do you qualify for drug assistance. Could you do better with the public health system where you live? Phillipa

Thanks for the replies :) I don't qualify for any drug assistance or public health services at this time as I am working and stable..... However, I am so afraid of what may happen if my meds are changed.... Ugh!

I was on a similar regimen in 2002, when a physician told me that my prescribed meds were wrong - saying that taking dexedrine and klonopin was antithetical. At the time, thinking my shrink knew what she was doing, I dismissed his opinion. Looking back ten years, I realized he was quite correct. I have no specific advice for you, except that you consider all possibilities.

Taking Klonopin with Adderall isn't exactly a speedball. It's very common to have both in a combo.

Say I've tried virtually ever drug combo out there but only Paxil and Klonopin gave some relief except for cognitive brain fog issues. My doc prescribes Ritalin and in a few days that problem is solved. Should he then try to wean me off K because chapter 6 in a textbook says it's antithetical? Thereby throwing you into a tailspin?

If I'm getting far less side effects from this combo than I got on good old dirty Amitriptyline, who cares what the pill is called?

I've gone to ADD forums, bipolar forums and others and it's standard protocol these days.

Somebody enlighten me why, in real world application, a doc shouldn't prescribe this if it works.

Do not go off your cocktail that you know works under any circumstances that is irresponsible of your doctor to do so. Go to www.healthwarehouse.com and you can generally buy generics for an excellent deal insurance or not!

That is so ridiculous. I really hate the medical insurance industry, especially Kaiser. From everything I've heard, Kaiser seems to specialize in making people's health issues worse. At any rate, I would get your old p-doc to call them and tell them that it is absolutely necessary for you to stay on your current med cocktail. I cannot imagine that any responsible practitioner (even at Kaiser) would ignore your p-doc, especially since you've been doing this for 22 years. Hang in there. You're going to get this resolved for the better, I know it.

Chris

Thank you everyone ! (nm)
