Zoloft side effects

Posted by Gibson on May 9, 2010, at 9:29:17

I've been taking Zoloft for 9 years for anxiety depression. One of the side effects is that it makes me anxious and that effects my relationships at work. I was wondering if anyone else has had these experiences?

When I first took Zoloft 10 years ago it helped both my anxiety and depression so well that I quit taking it after a couple of years. Then last year I had a horrible relapse of "activated depression" that featured anxiety mostly. It's as close to psychotic as I've ever been. My pdoc tried Zoloft and it worked briefly, then got very patchy. Switched about 2 months ago to Cymbalta & it stopped both anxiety and depression. Recently added Ritalin for ADD and so far it hasn't made my anxiety worse.

well this is a weird, im going to ask for sertraline back tommorow//generic zoloft, i was on it before i changed to citalopram//i never had anxiert because of it but i am addicted to ativan //that may have masked it///citalopram is simular but it does my sex life in// i had no probs with sertraline //but some find it the other way round so citalopram is a cool option, an a easy tapper //the sex bit may not effect you. by the way how much zoloft do you take//i was on 100mg an citalopram 40mg//anything over 100mg zoloft gave me gut pain

What did you mean that your last take at zoloft was "patchy"?

Thanks! Alayna

Also, do you take it with anything else like a tricyclic??

By "patchy" I mean that it the effect would fade in and out over the course of the day, or be great one day then have no effect on my anxiety the next day, even after going up to 100mg. With cymbalta I started at 60mg and it was patchy too, but at 90 it holds steady, at least so far.

So you were taking it mostly for anxiety? I can't remember if you had depression. If so, how did it work for that? Was it patchy as well??

Thanks,

Laney

Yeah, my pdoc called it "activated depression," which means mostly anxiety, though with an underlying depression. Cymbalta has worked so far for both.

I guess there's some pain relief -- I have an old neck injury that flares up sometimes & maybe that has been less problematic, but I still get the aches and pains of a 59 year old. I think Cymbalta is particularly effective for what they call "nerve pain."

I took Zoloft for a couple years. It definitely "activated" me and sometimes it seemed to go back and forth over the line between having lots of motivation and anxiety. The one (literally) painful side effect I had was extreme neck muscle tension/tightness. Never could figure out what was making me so tense until I went off it.

Sorry its been so long to get back, first time I've posted. I've been going back and forth between 150-200 mg of Zoloft.

Hello Gibson!

Welcome to Psycho-Babble! How does Zoloft affect your relationships at work? Are you sure it is the Zoloft?
