I hate my life

Posted by linkadge on May 19, 2009, at 18:33:38

prozac just makes me anxious and dysphoric. I don't understand why I am just going in circles.

Am I asking too much? All I want is to:

a) sleep at night
b) get up in the morning not feeling like a worthless piece of crap
c) be able to control my anxiety and mood throughout the day

Apparently I am asking too much.

I think Agomelatine will help with all three.
If only the FDA would approve it now.

Hi Linkage,

I am so sorry you are having these problems.

Can I ask a dumb question? If you're dysphoric and anxious on Prozac, why are you still taking it? I wouldn't ask this question of anyone but it seems this med isn't helping you and while causing side effects and putting you at risk for other problems.

If I am missing something, please forgive me.

Sometimes it just feels so unfair that some of us work so hard and have to ask for what others are able to take for granted.

hang in there,

Hi Linkadge,

You're echoing my very own thoughts. I am better than I was at the beginning of the year though which is something.

Have you tried 10mg of Zyprexa now and again?

Me too.

Sounds reasonable.

> c) be able to control my anxiety and mood throughout the day

Easy. Locate the knob labeled "anxiety" and turn it counterclockwise as far as it goes (absolute anxiolysis). Next locate the knob labeled "mood" and turn it clockwise as far as it will go (unbridled euphoria).

There's no good reason I can think of to mess with the "anxiety" control knob ever again; you might consider placing some duct tape over it. However, you might want to turn the euphoria down a bit immediately before bed if you find you can't sleep.

If you have trouble finding the anxiety-mood control settings (not all models are equipped with them, unfortunately), try the following:

tranylcypromine (Parnate) in the morning with a low dose of mirtazapine (Remeron) at night. Add modafinil and/or clonazepam to that as necessary if it's not enough.

I'm doing exactly that and it seems to be working quite well.

I think it's best to start out with just the mirtazapine and once you've reached a stable dose, then add the tranylcypromine gradually.

Keep some nifedipine on hand just in case (you know the symptoms), and buy an automatic cuff if you don't have one.

All good options:

Lexapro or Zoloft for Depression (also helps significantly with anxiety!

Seroquel for sleep (25mg is more than enough here - take two hours before you want to sleep - is an amazing remedy for sleep/insomnia)!

The above will work just be ready to accept the apathy and lack of motivation/energy (Dextroamphetamine to counter the side effects or 300mg Bupropion but the later can affect your anxiety negatively)

Hope it helps you!

Link, does Prozac do anything for you at any dose?

If so, what?

I'm just curious as to why you are on it.

prozac was the first AD i tried as an adult

it had me actually coming out of my body

i was taking warm baths a couple of times a day just to come back to myself

mornings are a big issue for me
i am by nature an early riser
when the meds mess with my morning it makes me hate myself

zoloft made it difficult for me to get up in the morning
adderall made it impossible for me to get up

i now take sonata to sleep and i take some lexapro before i go to bed and i am up early

this just works for a while but helps get me back on schedule

i don't know if this will help
but for me, getting up in the morning early and in an okay state of mind is a tremendous help
it's hard hanging in there
good luck and keep us posted
