Pharmacy trouble - thoughts?

Posted by linkadge on May 15, 2009, at 9:01:56

Hi, I went to fill a valid prescription for biphentin (ritalin). The problem was that I accidentally brought in an old prescription (nov 08) that I never filled. The pharmacy refused to fill it saying that it was too old.

After realizing I brought in the wrong (old) prescription I brought in the new one (April 09). They thought it was a forgery and are going to call my psychiatrist.

The only problem is this. While both prescriptions are valid, I had told the psychiatrist I was taking the biphentin when I wasn't (scared of cancer risk). Thats why I had this old precription lying around. So when they call the psychitrist he might hear about the old prescription in which case he's going to know I wasn't honest about taking it. At this point he will probably tell them not to fill the newer prescription. On the other hand, he might not care and say go ahead. Problem is, now that I'm done school, I won't be seeing this doctor again.

Argg. Not much I can do now. I guess so long as the pharmacy knows that the prescriptions weren't forged.

Thoughts?

if it were me i'd just call the pdoc office, tell them partial info (just that they thought the script was a forgery) and and see if he needs to write a new script or have it called in.
if they ask just tell the truth, that you didn't realize that you had a very old Rx and brought that in by mistake, then when you brought the good one in, they thought it fake.

**************
about not taking it back then, well 1)it's your body, your choice 2)there's nothing that can be done now, so not sure if pdoc will get mad cuz obviously you are taking it now. and 3)maybe your pdoc is busy enough that he just wont care either way. but will have the office get you new Rx.

Best luck link

Ya, I'm sure it happens quite often, p/docs are probably accustomed to pharmacy phone call inquiries.
I know I've done similar and it usually works out.
But, if you're anything like me and tend to ruminate towards the worst possible outcome, I can understand your concerns.
Agree though that a phone call to your p/docs office would show a proactive and responsible act. It may help you put to rest the thoughts of "oh know, whats going to happen!"
I'm sure everything will be fine.

Regards, Rick

Link I agree both with B2Chica and Ricker But you're in Canada so are the laws different? I feel it will be fine call the pdoc yourself that way they will see you're sincere and please let us know if it turns out well. And Congrats that School is over. Know that's a releaf to you. Love Phillipa

The pharmacy called to say that the prescription was filled. I'm not sure if they called in to verify with my pharmacist or not. I suppose it doesn't matter now.

I'm just glad I am not branded as a 'drug seeker'. I am going to try and take the medication more consistently. The ritalin really does help.

Thanks again for the responces.

Glad it worked out. In the future, I would level with your pdoc. You didn't do anything wrong you just did something different from what your doctor thought you were doing. I think as long as you are not abusing your meds and the doc can count on you to come clean about any deviations, they will regard you well. That's been my experience.

Zana

PS It has been my experience also that they don't llike to have scripts for controlled substances hanging around. They feel it puts them at risk of the meds falling into the wrong hands.
