olmifon and modafinil taken together?

Posted by shasling on December 17, 2006, at 15:15:11

Anyone know whether this should not be done? Been taking Provigil for some time with reasonable success but not perfect. Got olmifon to try and wondering if I can combine them, cause I dont want to stop the good effects of the provigil wile I wait to see what the olmifon does.

Thanks,

Suzie

Wow! Suzie,

That's just about all I have to say. I can't offer you any intelligent advice except to say go gently. iow halve your provigil and halve your adrafinil so that you will be taking the same total amount of modafinil. Start like that and then increase slowly. I am not an expert. I have never taken adrafinil but I have two boxes of it waiting in my drawer. Maybe you should stop the modafinil for a while and start your adrafinil on its own so you get the feel of it and then add the modafinil. Adrafinil metabolizes into modafinil inside the body as far as I know.

"Adrafinil was discovered in the late 1970s by scientists working with the French pharmaceutical company Group Lafon. The drug was first offered as an experimental treatment for narcolepsy in France in 1986. Later on, Lafon scientists developed modafinil as a stand-alone drug because the latter drug was understood to be a more highly selective alpha-1 adrenergic and also featured less in the way of side effects such as stomach pain, skin irritations, feelings of tension, and an increase in liver enzyme levels. SGOT SGPT GGPT hepatic alkaline phosphatase"

Suzie you want to get your liver enzymes checked before you start Adrafinil and then again about 5 months after you have been taking it.

What are Adrafinil's side effects or drug interactions?

1.Side effects include: increase in liver enzymes, headaches, stomach pain, minor skin irritations, inner tension and mild agitation or aggression

2.People with epilepsy, liver or kidney impairment, or those using tranquilizer should not use Adrafinil

I would love to know how it goes. Please come back and let us know. I hope I have not bored you with a whole lot of stuff you already knew. The guy to ask about Adrafinil is blueberry. I expect he will answer your post when he sees it.

Thanks ronaldo,

my plan was to stop the provigil of course, but when I took the olmifon and not the provigil I couldnt get otta bed, just like the old days. (Have narcolepsy as well so have to have something to keep me from just sleeping non-stop.)

Anyway Im told olmifon isnt an instant effect drug like provigil, so wondered if I could stay on the provigil for a while to give the olmifon time to kick in. Not a perfect plan I know, lol. Just wondering if it would make my head explode or something :)

Thanks for your response, r.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't do a cross taper from one to the other. The only problem is that if things don't go right it will be hard to point the finger at whatever is wrong. Is it the adrafinil not as good or taking several weeks to kick in? Is it the lower dose of provigil? Is it some weird thing with the two mixed? Ya know? But hey, it's like that all the time whenever we go from one med to another.

The majority of adrafinil is metabolized into provigil, so you will still have provigil in your system from it.

Questions for you...

How soon after you take a dose of modafinil can you feel it?
Does it brighten your mood at all?
Does it create any anxiety or nervousness for you?
How long does it take to wear off? If you take it in the morning does it affect sleep?

Thanks!

Thanks for the input blueberry. I really appreciate it. How long does the adrafanil take to kick in? Is it several weeks or was that just a throwaway comment? And whats a good dose? Im not a very big girl, so dont wanna take too much...

I can feel the provigil witin like 30 minutes I think. I cant handle the whole 200 mg at once so i take 100 mg about 6 a.m., the other 100 after lunch, and it has never kept me from sleeping at night. In fact I still come home from work and go to bed most days; thats pretty much why I'm looking into the adrafanil as an alternative. I cant say the provigil has ever brightened my mood per se, but it does get me where I can get up and get things done, like if I dont take it getting myself in the shower in the morning is murder. If I take it I dont mind the activity so much and routine things like that are easier. What it does do very well is of course keep the sleep attacks away during the day at work. It has never made me agitated or nervous.

Thanks again for your help.

Suzie
