I can't believe how powerful these meds are. I have been on all kinds of meds for at least a decade. It is always hard to get started. They seem so powerful at first. I'm glad the body adjust to that.
Was on 20mg prozac and 5mg zyprexa for years and it was like taking candy. I was completely adjusted to them. Few days ago started just 1.25mg zyprexa and 2.5mg prozac. I mean, we're talkin baby doses here, and this stuff is kicking my butt with headaches and stuff.
Nice to see my appetite coming back, sleeping a bit better, ears getting quieter, anxiety and depression maybe a notch improved already.
But wow. These meds are powerful. To me anyway.

Blueberry, I agree with you. I stopped taking prozac 20mg. in 2004 after being on it for four years. Then my pdoc put me back on it last September same dose, 20mg. and I took one capsule and my anxiety was through the roof! Wonder why? When I started Prozac the first time never had that reaction. Wonder if this is common with many psych drugs?

I am extremely sensitive to these meds too!
I just took 2mg of Cymbalta this morning and it had me going pretty fast (with a bit of agitation and tachycardia to boot). I wish I wasn't so sensitive because then I could just take a "normal" dose for the 4 weeks and get a better sense of how these meds affect me compared to how they affect others. I find fiddling around with small doses makes me more likely to drop the stuff.
It's nice to know there are others out there who are sensitive like me. Good luck with your Zyprexa and Prozac!

Ahh, so you've learned the trick with cymbalta of making custom doses. I've done that too. I find that 1mg to 2mg is pretty stimulatory and mood lifting within hours, though it does have some slight restlessness or hints of agitation when it wears off. I did at one time actually work up to 30mg in a few days, then did 60mg one day, didn't really notice much effect other than I slept worse and sex was impossible. Now I look back and wonder how in the world did I ever tolerate that much.

Blueberry the first time when it was new I took up to 60mg of cymbalta and no side effects and no relief of depression or anxiety either. Second time a few months back 30mg made me feel like my head would explode. I could only stand it even with the l5mg of valium I was taking with it so I ditched it. Now it seems on 20mg of valium and l00mg of luvox the opposite is happening. All I want to do is sleep. But I am still a nervous wreck . Any suggestions?

Hi Bassman,
if you don't mind me asking, what dose per day are you taking with liquid prozac? i want to reduce from 20 daily, i'm too sleepy and unmotivated, but i want to keep a small dose on board...john

I got the liquid because I wanted to start low with the Prozac-so I started at 1/8 teaspoon= 2.5 mg Prozac. I've gone up to 10 mg, and I seen a difference. After reading your post, maybe I'll stay where I am for awhile!

I've taken prozac for years on and off. I liked 10mg the best. 20mg was too numbing like other ssri's. For me anyway. Mileage varies.
I'm doing the liquid trick too, except I mix the contents of a 10mg cap in water and drink 1/4 of it a day.

That has to be cheaper than the "official" liquid. I think the pharmacist should have been wearing a mask and holding a gun when I paid for it..

Hi Phillipa, how are you? I actually had the same reaction when i first started prozac almost 5 years ago,
at 20 mgs. i was waking at 4 a.m. and running 7 miles, then doing things around the house all day,
i know my pdoc was slightly concerned, but it leveled off after 5 month's, then at 30 mgs. i never felt so tired, [1 year into my prozac expeirence].
now well in to year 4 I am still walking and working part-time, but i feel a need to nap every afternoon, and i'm not yet 40, so i don't think it is age, lol. I really feel a paradoxical effect at this point, but i fear going off prozac altogether, although i wish i had my early energy back.
i hope to wean on to something natural, or even just take low dose serzone or tofranil,
i think after awhile ssri's build up in the system, or at least mine. have you read "Prozac Backlash" by dr. Glen Mullen [I hope i got his name correct] it is very interesting, and discusses paradoxical effects in long term ssri users.

i tryed going to 40, but felt worse, i think i need a whole new med regimen, thanks for the insight....john

The first time I took 50 mg of Zoloft I nearly went out of my mind. Heart pounding, chest pain, sweating like a pig, and a sensation I can only poorly describe as an altered perception of time. I was on no other psych meds at the time.
After the same response to the second dose cut in half (25 mg) I've never taken an SSRI since (well, a pure SSRI--I did try Remeron).
