Emotionless Now..........

Posted by woolav on July 18, 2005, at 7:57:15

Since I have been on trileptal I have had no emotions, except mostly anger. Granted, its helped my bp2 symptoms, I havent thought of suicide and I havent had hypomania episodes, but now I feel nothing*....Its like I am angry or bitchy all the time according to my husband..And I do see that. I dont want to stop taking the tripletal because it has helped with the first aspects I mentioned. But I dont want to be like this either. I am going to the pdoc soon and want to know what I should tell him. (besides the truth) I always like to have some thoughts about what I need to do when I see the doc. Like, maybe adding another med or something..
For those that are new to the board:
I take:
300 mg lamictal
20 mg prozac
600 mg trileptal
3 mg klonopin

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Sandy..

Hi Sandy.

I have been on Trileptal for several months. What you describe is EXACTLY what I experienced early in treatment. However, those things completely disappeared. My advice is that if you have not been at 600mg for at least a month, try to be patient.

Good luck.

Hi Scott, I have been on that med for over a month now, about 7 weeks I believe. If this doesnt subside, I will have to lower the dose or something. it just seems like there is always some sort of give and take with meds. Before, I could be happy, but then the next day, be crying and want to go off and die...Sometimes life just sucks!! I try and try but in the long run, I cant find the right meds..... :(

Donna remember you're afraid of all meds. Some of the others need their meds. Behavior can get them in trouble. Fondly, Phillipa

Hi Sandy.

> I have been on that med for over a month now, about 7 weeks I believe.

It sounds to me like you have given Trileptal a fair trial. A few more weeks should definitely be enough to see whether or not the cognitive side effects disappear. If I were in your position, I would be reducing the dosage now to 300-450mg to see if the side effects persist. I'm hoping that for you, 300mg is just as good as 600mg therapeutically. I have a feeling you'll find a dosage that works for you. As always, there are no guarantees.

I wish I had an easier answer for you, but I think you are doing everything right.

Don't mean to bring you down but trileptal was no good for me. I was a complete zombie on it. Not happy not sad, just floating through life. Very slow, and lifeless on it.

I had completely lost those little little moments which were worth fighting for.

Well, it seems like its just a no win situation. I dont feel happy or sad either. But then what is there? Its all so confusing..I started taking it to stop my bp2 symptoms, which it did, but now I am just here, if you know what I mean. I am going to the pdoc 8/1 and will see what he says.
yada yada yada...
