female sexual SE and Lexapro

Posted by T34 on February 4, 2004, at 3:47:29

I was wondering about the female version of the sexual side effects. I have been on Lexapro for several months, but recently stopped taking it and switched to Wellbutrin due to the inability to climax. Wellbutrin did not help with the irratability and I really need the Lexapro, but don't know if I can stand being orgasmless from now on!

For me, on Lexapro, it was just a matter of ...uh, hem...training. It took some time for my body to learn how to climax again but after a couple of weeks of "intense training sessions" *grin* It was much better :-)

Good Luck

A lot of people take Wellbutrin along with Lexapro. Wellbutrin will sometimes counteract the sexual side effects.

Quite a few people have had success using buspirone for SSRI-induced anaorgasmia. 15mg Remeron also works.

Hi
I am on 10mg of Lex. It has been good for me but bad for my orgasms. I can still get there just takes a little longer than before. It is starting to get better though, I have heard of many people really liking the lexapro wellbutrin combo so you may want to give that a shot. Good Luck!

I tried Wellbutrin with Lexapro, but had an allergic reaction to it. So, I don't know if it did work. It was keeping the weight off.

I am currently on Buspar. It hasn't been that benefictial to me. I am on 90 mg. That's a lot. Seems to help with depression more than anything.

As far as orgasms, it depends on too many factors. Some days, it's just not going to happen no matter what I try. Other days, I must get lucky and it will happen. It appears that part of my body (in control of orgasms) actually shrunk. I am not kidding. I wonder how many women actually even notice that effect from this drug.

I'm male but I've had the same problem while on Lexapro. I find that physical stimulation alone is not usually sufficient to achieve orgasm. I have get my head more involved - for example, more intense fantasies.

Hey Ya'll
Ok this is a weird question but has anyone had a harder time thinking of fantasies on lexapro. This may be way too much info but when I am *pleasing myself* its harder for me to have good fantasies, or fantasies that are as vivid. This may be part of depression but it almost feels like this part of my brain has been shut off (very left side of my brain) if anyone can relate I would love to hear, its alway possible that I am crazy.

I feel like my sexual organs were sacrificed to the Inca God named Lexapro. They just don't work and the fantasys went up in the smoke too.

Here is the list of tried and failed for me:

Wellbutrin ....shook and itched
Trazodone......itched
Buspar.........not effective
Serzone........severe adverse reaction

I can't remember the last time I had an orgasm. I am dead as a cold skeleton.

Sexylexy,

I also found that my fantasies took a hit after starting on Lexapro. I'm not totally dead in that area, but I have to make much more of an effort now. I refuse to be totally orgasmless, even though it's more work now.

On the other hand, I am less obsessed with my fantasies now than before Lex. I have mixed feelings about this: on the one hand, I have more time for thinking about other things besides my sexual fantasies, but on the other I feel like a part of my being is not fully intact.

I'm willing to live with it for now because I do plan eventually to go off Lex, hopefully after some counseling, improved diet, attitude - at least, that is my hope.
