Hi I am new here, I have been on 75mg per day of Effexor-XR for 1 week now, and I take it before dinner everynight. I have only had 2 side affects sleepyness and I am always hungry. I am very WORRIED about putting on weight, i am on the pill YASMIN becuase of weight gain on all the other kinds, and now I have only been hearing about people putting on weight on Effexor-XR, only a few have lost. I am not big, I weigh 120lbs (60Kg's) and I have always been constantly up and down with my weight, I am VERY paranoid about putting on weight and also becoming anorexic. I look in the mirror and i do see FAT, that is what worries me. On the genes side all my family is thin, i am a spitting image of my mom and she is thinner than me. So why am i worried??
I am on Effexor because of Anxiety, and a touch of depression. I am a HUGE worry pot as you can tell. and i really do need some help in regards to success stories.
Does anyone know the exact answer to why so many people have put on weight since they have started Effexor-XR or is it just a lifestyle thing or other things?

i did put on a couple of kg's on effexor- nothing dramatic- but i was on 300mg and i binged and did no exercise. but then the weight didnt go up anymore instead it stabalized at the new weight.i found that a decent diet and execise program helped take off the kg's once i was feeling better. ofcourse on meds you have to work that extra bit harder but it is possible. i guess if you start by watching what you eat now and do some exercise you can avoid any weight gain whatsoever.
also i know of many people who lose weight on effexor. i'm on 75mg now and have noticed no increase even though i have awful lifestyle habits.
so maybe you need not worry at all.
for me i think weight gain was caused by the fact that i have been on so many different drugs that slow down your metabolism (like antipsychotics)- so by the time i started effexor i was already at a disadvantage
well sorry to ramble- but i too am a bit paranoid about weight
i hope u r fine on effexor- it really helped me

For me, taking an ad is helpful in that it allows me some physical and mental comfort while I continue to work on stuff with my therapist. I know that if I just take ad"s my problems will be waiting for me at the end of the pill!
I gained a little weight on Effexor, and lost my sex drive.I hope you find someone to talk to about your worries if you haven't already. It sounds like when you look in the mirror you see someone who is physically not totally you! Is that a Wal Mart mirror?.
