Patience pays off with Lexapro and support

Posted by theo on June 1, 2003, at 18:51:48

I started Lexapro May 7th and thanks to patience and support from this sight, I'm starting to feel some benefits from it. Over the years I've been on and off of SSRI's and some of them took a few weeks before I felt better, but I never had any strange feeling physically or mentally to discontinue them. With Lexapro I had nausea kick in not right away but a week or so later followed by extreme sleepiness and just flat feeling strange and uncomfortable around people. This past Thursday, 23 days later, I woke up and took my 10mg of Lexapro and halfway through the morning noticed no nausea and haven't had any since. The sleepiness has also seemed to phase out some and I'm feeling better than I've felt in quite some time. I hope it continues so I can put some postive energy to use for a change.

YOU DON'T KNOW HOW GREAT THIS NEWS IS!!!!!! You know something is "different"; not neccessarily "better"...... Yet!!! In retrospect, that's how it started w/me....odd, unusual, kind of wierd, and then anxious and sometimes a little depressed...just not as "BAD" as usual. And then one day you will find yourself actually in a good mood, someone tells a joke......AND YOU WILL LAUGH....really laugh and it will be GOOD!!!

I just hope and pray it goes that way for you TOO!!! BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!!

Glad to hear it's working for you! Have other SSRIs been effective as well? Why did you quit them? I always wonder whether there are different drugs in the same class which might work whereas others don't. Prozac pooped out on me and all other SSRI's haven't really done anything except Zoloft which was very brief, almost hypomanic.

If other people have experiences with one SSRI not working and another doing the job I would love to hear them.
