Omega-3 fish oil is made up of EPA and DHA and several other rarer types. Most one gram capsule have around 180mg of EPA and 120mg DHA.For psychiatric problems the EPA is the more important one.A well-known brand is OmegaBrite (www.omegabrite.com)but most people buy cheaper ones in the local supermarket.See my site www.omega3.20megsfree.com for more details.

I use Carlson's Omega 3 Fish oil. It is from Norway. It has 800 mg EPA in one serving (1 teaspoon). It also has no fish taste--it has a lemon taste.

I bought it locally, but I did find an online store that has the description:

It is printed on the label of the fish oil I buy (it is also listed in the product description in the link I gave you), and is on the labels of most other brands, too. But is it possible that the labeling is not required in Mexico and is left off? Maybe if you order from the US over the internet?

Perhaps you can contact the company that made the oil directly. Call them, or write them? Perhaps they don't know about this "new" thing of EPA. For a long time, a long time ago, people just took cod liver oil for the vitamins (A and D, I think).

Hope this helps.

The "standard" values most often published for fish oil are 18% EPA and 12% DHA. That would mean that for every 1000 miligrams (one gram), you'd be getting 180 mg EPA and 120 mg DHA. The standard size for fish oil caps is most often 1,000 mg, so these are the numbers you'll most often see.

A standard teaspoon contains 5 mL of water. The water concept is important here because water has a defined density of 1.0, so the weight of water in one teaspoon is five grams. Fats and oil have a lower density, so one teaspoon of fish oil, also having a volume of 5 mL, has a lower weight, just four grams. So....one teaspoon of fish oil gives the EPA and DHA of four fish oil caps. In other words, if the 18% and 12% concentrations hold true, you'd get 4 times 180 miligrams EPA = 720 mg, and 4 times 120 mg DHA = 480 mg.

I'll tell you that there is no doubt that different batches of fish oil have slightly different concentrations of the omega-3's, so it's just more convenient to say that one teaspoon of fish oil will provide 800 mg EPA and 500 mg DHA, in round numbers.

I hope that wasn't confusing.

Correct me If Im wrong please . I was looking on the internet for the quantity of EPA and DHA . It says every cap contains 65mg of EPA and 45 of DHA
Im very confused . That means I have to take 20 pills per day to reach the 1000 mg of EPA??????
Or you need 1000 mg of what???
Hope you can help me

Well, more like fifteen (65 times 15 is 975). Those concentrations are low compared to other products, and I presume that they are 500 mg capsules (or less).

So, yes you need to take a lot of them, or obtain another product that is more concentrated.
