problems with Lexapro

Posted by havier on November 30, 2002, at 14:22:16

Hi, i recently started taking lexapro at 10mg and the first day i took it My eyes started to go blury. At first i couldn't tell what it was, but as the days went bye my eyes got worse and worse, plus severe spots before my eyes. I took lexapro for two weeks then my doctor told me to stop, that it was an alergic reaction. My eyes got a little better but the right one still has severe spots before my eyes. Its hard to see. And I'm scared. I know its the medicine because it happened the first day I took it. I thought it would be some sort of temporary side affect. Now they say just go to the doctor for my eyes, but i don't have two or three hundred to march into a opthamologists and say go!!if something is seriously wrong, who is liable for my eyes!!

Do you have medical insurance? If not, can't your pdoc suggest a low-cost, sliding scale clinic in your neighborhood? I urge you to see an ophthalmologist as soon as possible.

Do you have health insurance? Some have better coverage for emergencies. So you could go to the emergency room of a hospital, tell them you are going blind (even if you have to exaggerate), and see an opthamologist there. But it depends on how your coverage works.

Either way, you should see a doctor if you are not improving. I have never heard of that kind of a reaction to Lexapro or any other antidepressant, but I guess that anything is possible.
