SSRI Discontinuation Syndrome

...SSRIs, when discontinued or when the dosage is lowered, produce an "anticholinergic rebound," which is an interruption in production of the key neurotransmitter acetylcholine...

hmm, I wonder if an ACE Inhibitor (Acetylcholine Esterase Inhibitor) would help.

I keep mentioning this but no one's ever commented on it yet.

I found that when I took adrafinil (Olmifon), it completely stopped the discontinuation symptoms I had. I now take modafinil (Provigil -USA or Alertec -Canada) instead & think it may have definite benefits in that regard. When I broached the idea to my pharmacist, he was quite interested. He felt I should write the pharmaceutical company & tell them my results. I really wish I would hear more about this possibility as modafinil does activate different areas of the brain & affects different neurotranmitters than SSRIs.

I recently lowered my dosage of Effexor XR (although it is not an SSRI), and it is worsening many symptoms, which I _suspect_ result in disturbed acetylcholin system.
But, Adrafinil does not help (I took a single dose of 300mg). I also have to say that I never got a usefull effect from adrafinil in previous atteppts, tryouts.

But interesting anyway to hear that you found this.

Thanks for reply, Rod. I can't speak about single doses of adrafinil. What happened was that I begin taking adrafinil for narcolepsy on my own (before my doctor prescribed modafinil, Provigil). I was taking adrafinil for a couple of months at the time I ran out of my Paxil. I was also on the max dose of adrafinil.
