Ramblings from watching TV show Cops

Posted by 3 Beer Effect on June 4, 2002, at 14:20:36

I watch the TV show "Cops" every night, & all of these people in the ghetto are killing themselves & getting arrested/sent away for long prison sentences over methamphetamine & cocaine, the effects of both of which (if taken in SIMILAR DOSAGES IV or intranasally) cannot be differentiated from either dextroamphetamine or Adderall (amphetamine) from a blindfolded experienced drug abuser test subject in a laboratory.

Although, on the other hand, people on the street are taking much larger doses (1 gram instead of 20 mg), giving the perception that these "street drugs" are much stronger, but powder methamphetamine, amphetamine, & cocaine are often weaker than comparable doses of Dexedrine or Adderall because street drugs are "cut" with so many dilutents.

BUT, Comparison tests haven't been done with (Smokable) Crystal (Ice) Methamphetamine and Crack Cocaine yet. From watching "Cops" every night, it is fascinating- almost every crime is related to Crack Cocaine, along with drunkeness by Alcohol being a somewhat distant second (usually related to domestic violence/fighting), & Crystal Methamphetamine a distant third (Usually a person exhibiting paranoid bizzare behavior such as yelling, running in & out of busy streets).

Crack Cocaine & Alcohol abuse appear to be two of the great scourges of America at the moment. For many years they have said (Smokable) Crystal Meth will replace Crack Cocaine as the new "scourge", but for some reason that doesn't appear to be happening as of yet. I listened to some interviews with polydrug abusers & they say that the "high" of crystal meth lasts too long- that's the first time i've heard of a drug abuser complaining the high lasts too long! Perhaps cocaine & crack cocaine have a powerful physically addictive component to them since they are "naturally" derived stimulants complex in structure & also have local anasthetic activity. Two other "naturally" derived stimulants, nicotine & caffeine are also very physically addictive. People laugh at the addictiveness of caffeine, but caffeine dependence is fairly universal, & definite physical withdrawl symptoms develop when use is stopped. I bet most people couldn't go a month without caffeine.

These "scourges" change with the times. I think in Sigmund Freud's time he wrote that morphine (including heroin), cocaine powder, and alcohol were the great scourges of mankind, but I think the morphine/heroin thing has dampened somewhat because of the needles & high rates of HIV & Hepatitis C brough on by IV drug use.

Some used to claim that the drop in crime in NYC in the early Giuliani years was due to a resurgence in opiate use over crack/cocaine. Never saw it reported but it made sense to me. Your post just made me think of it.
