Trazodone fog

Posted by janejj on February 22, 2002, at 15:03:02

Hi,

I took Trazodone for the first time last night (50mg). It didn't help me sleep, just gave me a fog in the head, whcih I still have now plus a headache!

Is this normal and will these side effects go away and will it eventually help me sleep ?

regards
jane

There is absolutely no way you can assess the effectiveness or side effects of a drug in one night. Most AD side effects go away after 2-3 weeks. I would continue for at least that long unless it's truely impairing your life.

I was on Trazodone for a while as an AD which would also help me sleep. I did not experience bad side effects except is was sedating at a dosage of 200-300mg. However the sedative effect went after 2 weeks and i experienced no problems since. Therefore your side effects might go quite quickly. After a month i went down to a dose of 100mg and this really eased my depression for a while much better than ssri's ever did. I thought Trazodone was a good drug, but you do over time develope a tolerance. Give it a go it might help....skills

I had that same nasty fog and quit taking it. Later a doc told me to start out at lower doses breaking the pills into halves and even quarters. I biult up to a higher dose over two or three weeks and that worked for me alot better.
