Effexor vs. Effexor...need help QUICK

Posted by Jen111111111 on November 18, 2000, at 1:18:11

I've been taking the sample packs of Effexor XR from my doc. I went to get my perscription filled and it's the regular Effexor. I had the pharmacist call my doc but he is out of town. Is taking the regular going to screw me up???? What exactly is the difference?

James here....

Effexor and Effexor XR are not that different. XR
tends to have fewer side effects, like tummy problems
and sweating. Both last about the same amount of time in the
body but the XR has a flatter peak than Effexor. This makes for
smoother dosing. I also prefer capsules, the fine power inside
is ez'er on the tummy and goes into solution quickly. A hard, big pill,
like effexor, causes upset and it is possible to pass the whole pill
through your body.

The short answer is , same good effects but possibly more side effects. Just fine
in a pinch.

I cam eon to ask the same question... My pdoc has not written XR on the pescription, and the pharmacist won't fill it with XR... Pdoc on holds, and it's 10 miles away, I can't get to the clinic, and only have 4 more days left with XR...

Help!!!

I took the regular this morning. I unfortunately waited until I was out of XR before getting my perscription filled. I did notice increased side effects. Nothing major though, mainly YAWNS. On XR I didn't have any. I think it will be fine, but I'm going to the doc on Monday.

I think the regular can hold you over for a day or two till you gt the xr, but you will have to dose differently, and that may have not been accounted for in the prescription. Call your doc.

I found the xr had few negative effects for me.
