No beauty like a broken shell
Tells so graphically
The tale of grim crustacean war
With living armory,

Of jaws ungodly gnashing out
Horrific injury,
Of fateful daring soirees
To fatal tragedy.

Compared to this, a perfect
Shell has what to tell?
Of knitting in the shallows?
Of living safe and well?

Id rather draw old women,
Id rather play the fool,
Id rather croon a homemade tune:
Imperfect, beautiful.
