should've called it 'getting lost'...

Posted by obsidian on February 12, 2008, at 20:15:18

'cause that's the way it leads

direct and straight and right
going off in a cold dark night
I freeze up and stare ahead
the fences line the way
I try and try to see....

branches find themselves in hanging peices,
heavy with the snow
finding roots in a rocky wasteland
...exquisitely sensitive
I hear every single crunch
a mailbox stands its post
houses dot and jut the landscape
every picket half buried in snow
deeper deeper as they go
they find themselves connected
but somehow separate just the same
trees colliding overhead
enduring weight that lies above,
heavy like a rock
underneath I find it quiet,
following where the path may lead
I find myself collapsing
any promises left to keep?
the woods after all are 'lovely, dark and deep'
rising walls of snow
where moon and earth collide..and I walk in between
shadows fall behind the trees,
holding what the moon won't see,

from my window..take a peek
at the moon that sucks the light
and the earth, that distant light
a passing look through a frosty windowpane
from a place of warmth and shelter
further does it seem

It makes me think of all those romantic and interesting snowy places. Like in "Imperium" where the author, no stranger to cold weather, coming as he did from Pinsk in eastern Poland, perhaps now Ukraine, almost dies somewhere or other in the former USSR when he gets a house address wrong and becomes disoriented amid the snowdrifts up at street level. Clearly you have to have been brought up in some kind of hot desert to feel like this.

yeah, that sounds seriously rugged. There's only one thing to do when you're stuck in the snow, and that's keep going....and make sure you don't become a human popsicle.
I like a really good snowfall...we don't seem to get enough anymore here in New York. It was a whole new world after it snowed, and we would stay out until it was dark.
You like snow much?

This doesn't really look like a photo, does it?

This is more like the dry Australia I know

It is so depressing. So I preferred stuff like this down the bottom of Australia where it actually gets cold.

so strangely enough, I've been drawing dry, barren and remote places that resemble the first picture
has a certain comfort in it similar to the snow picture
the pictures of the mountains are incredible...just amazing

I'm not sure I'll ever get to where I am going,
I don't know where I am, and I am getting lost
nothing seems familiar
that might say this is north or south or east or west?
I just wander,
but am I lost?.. because I am nowhere in particular, some would say I am "in the middle of nowhere"

Sometimes when I walked up the track here
http://www.marytravels.com/cml28%20(2).jpg
it would be sleeting, and it felt Biblical (I don't know why I say that) and when the weather closed in it was like you walked and walked, without knowing where you were going or why, and I liked that feeling.

yeah..."biblical" feels right to me too for some reason
mountains- difficulties, obstacles, challenges
source of water- energy, life
and to be able to make it to the top of that would feel triumphant, and one would be awe struck just being there

just walking and walking...
yeah, I know that feeling.... I think it's about not needing a destination, total acceptance

I was like that when I was a kid....I didn't need a destination, I would just walk and walk and walk and walk and I could wander just as much as I wanted to, until it got dark and I'd find my way home again
I'd often wander, totally by myself and content

Isn't that lovely?

Oh my goodness.
I wonder why we don't feel like that more often or at all?

From today's perspective, this painting just looks like a vagina with a train running into it, I guess the train would be a penis then. And it's just really suggestive. I can't believe I didn't see that before. I just saw the colours and the other moody type stuff. But today it is quite clear what it could otherwise also be about. Can't be subconscious, not when it's that glaringly obvious. Could it? Maybe it's my own subconscious. Hmh. What you think?

Oh, it' snot (oops again) .. it's not a train, it's actually a path, well now it looks even more like a penis, and the trees above look very much like vaginal walls, yes. They do.

Oops, third post in a row and I think I'm out, but I see also now, that image that could one one of earth from outer space .. or is it inner space? .. that could also be the top of a child's head, but not just any head, a neo-natal head. Special, and also slightly alien, like the image of earth, it too is alien. Hmh.

There's also this windowpane image overlaying, or is it underlying, and a jack frost-like thing happening but also I can see an eye in there, a clear eyeball image, like someone is saying hello, here I am. And the ball in the corner, looking down on everything and also like a breast, looking very much a teat in full bloom, the fullness of the moon.

upper right hand is the view of earth you might see from the moon....circular forms though... they look like a lot of things, heads, planets, moons, areolas...you name it

away from the light or towards the light?
carol anne?? (yes, it's a 'poltergeist' reference)
I am stuck between two realities
who do I listen to? I don't know which direction to go in.
...."never had to worry about you...you always knew what could hurt you"
did I, did I?
no, but enough to know when to hide
I'll stay here tucked away inside this empty tire
you can't find me..it's impossible
and I can run....and I did run

i'm afraid I've made a mess of things.....

guess we'll need a pickup
down aisle number....
I can't tell you because I don't know which aisle I'm in
I'm lost
lost

send me a message give me a clue
throw me a line
It's hard to hear you
but I'm trying to listen...
what did you say? you're so far away
send me a postcard, drop me a line

I can't stop....

I keep going, going
deeper...into the woods
gone
how do you keep yourself warm in the snow?
you keep yourself buried in it
or you keep moving
wish I had a river
I could skate away on
left out in the cold
If I came across a window what would I see?
like a wandering street urchin, a gamine
if I am one of those who wander
have I gone too far?
