"The Living" Natalie Merchant
What's it like there outside
With the living?
From this broken down place
Where I hide
From the living
From the livingCause I don't care to stay
With the livingO, the bottle has been to me
My closest friend and
My worst enemy
Afraid that I've walked a fine line
Squandered it all
And wasted my timeAnd I don't stand a chance
Among the livingAll the lovers I've gambled and lost
Count my mistakes
Whatever the cost
I'll go off, I'll make myself scarce
Come tomorrow
You won't find me hereCause I don't care to stay
Among the livingNo, I don't think I'll remain

I wish I could write something myself, but this says a lot, but NO, I am not suicidal, I just don't belong with the living

That is such a lovely truthful song. As you would know, you need to hear it, and especially toward the end of the song it is as if she is (I think the word is) keening, a sort of cry of pain....but it is such a beautiful and sad song, especially....
Oh the bottle has been to me
My dearest friend my worst enemy
Afraid that I've walked a fine line
Squandered it all and wasted my timeIt is simply the most beautiful song.
I've enjoyed "Motherland" too, though not (so much) the earlier 10,000 Maniacs.
This is the end of the thread.
