Lou Reed Festival~~~~~~~~~~

Posted by fayeroe on June 13, 2007, at 21:20:38

Sit yourself down
bang out a tune on that grand piano
Sit yourself down
lay languidly down upon that sofa

Ooohhh, isn't it nice
when your heart is made out of ice

Ride, Sally, ride
it's not your time or way of confusion
Ride, Sally, ride
'cause if you don't, you'll get a contusion

Ooohhh, isn't it nice
when your heart is made out of ice

Sit yourself down
take off your pants, don't you know this is a party
Sit yourself down
why do you think we brought all these people, Miss Brandy

Ooohhh, isn't it nice
when you find your heart's made out of ice

Ride, Sally, ride
it's not your time, it's just your confusion
Ride, Sally, ride
it's not your time, you'll get a contusion

Ooohhh, isn't it nice
when you find your heart is made out of ice

(Ride, Sally ride)
(Ride, ride, ride, ride, Sally ride) Ride, Sally, ride
(Ride, ride, ride, ride, Sally ride) Hey, ride, Sally, ride
(Ride, ride, ride, ride, Sally ride) Ride, Sally, ride
(Ride, ride, ride, ride, Sally ride, oh-oh-oh, oh)

I went to a Lou Reed concert in Brisbane in the early 70s and 'Ride Sally Ride' was the first song.

When he sang
'Isn't it nice
When your heart is made out of ice'
well, I still remember it.

He had this wonderful, primary colours thing in the music.

And since we've also been talking about politics, how about (do you remember his tone of voice)?....

Kill Your Sons

All your two-bit psychiatrists
are giving you electroshock
They said, they'd let you live at home with mom and dad
instead of mental hospitals
But every time you tried to read a book
you couldn't get to page 17
'Cause you forgot where you were
so you couldn't even read

Don't you know they're gonna kill your sons
don't you know gonna kill, kill your sons
They're gonna kill, kill your sons
until they run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run away

Mom informed me on the phone
she didn't know what to do about dad
Took an axe and broke the table
aren't you glad you're married
And sister, she got married on the island
and her husband takes the train
He's big and he's fat
and he doesn't even have a brain

They're gonna kill your sons
don't you know they're gonna kill, kill your sons
Don't you know they're gonna kill, kill your sons
until they run away

Creedmore treated me very good
but Paine Whitney was even better
And when I flipped out on PHC
I was so sad, I didn't even get a letter
All of the drugs, that we took
it really was lots of fun
But when they shoot you up with thorizene on crystal smoke
you choke like a son of a gun

Don't you know they're gonna kill your sons
don't you know they're gonna kill, kill your sons
Don't you know they're gonna kill, kill your sons
until they run, run, run, run, run, run, run away

I read that he was given ECT because of the perceived threat of homosexuality.

(What's PHC? THC?
Crystal smoke is meth?)

It's one of the saddest lines....
'Take off your pants, don't you know this is a party'.
I feel gratitude for the music of the early 70s.

yes, i remember this song. haven't thought of it in years...politics? yup. and it goes along with "Masters of War" which is my all time favourite anit-war song.....Eddie Vedder knocked my socks off when i heard it. and i was doing 85mph in Montana!!! :-)

i had to grin, i've heard about "PHC" and for some reason a horse drug comes to mind.....from the 60s......i had a horse then and was around the stables every night.....

i'll ask around. my oldest daughter might know. she's our resident drug name expert. :-) it was hard to live through it, but when she got out on the other side, she didn't forget about any of it. she was born in '67 but her head is full of trivial drug info.......

I met Willie Nelson in the early 70s (he was hungry then) and his lyrics were so much better and meaningful than they are now...at least to me. He was starving then and wrote from a deep place of pain.

Then Boingo, Boingo came along and nothing has been the same!!!!! :-)

Could you be thinking of PCP, aka angel dust. As far as that one, been there. Did that. Had the hallucinations. When I was two years old, of course. It was used as an anesthetic.

Nope.......found nothing. but i think it was an anesthetic for horses back then. i think when my stud was castrated, that's what they used.......i wish Mary was still alive and i'd call her. she was my "horse" running buddy. we trained horses together.

you know what i did when i was 20? broke race horses out of the gates for a trainer. i cannot believe that i did that......it was so exciting and scary at the same time and i love those kinds of situations.......:-)
