Song: Sweet Jane Lyrics
Anyone who's ever had a heart
Wouldn't turn around and break it
And anyone who's ever played a part
Wouldn't turn around and hate itSweet Jane, sweet Jane
Sweet, sweet Jane
You're waiting
For Jimmy down in the alley
Waiting there
For him to come back home
Waiting down on the corner
And thinking of ways
To get back homeSweet Jane, sweet Jane
Sweet, sweet Jane
Anyone who's ever had a dream
Anyone who's ever played a part
Anyone who's ever been lonely
And anyone who's ever split apartSweet Jane, sweet Jane
Sweet, sweet Jane
Heavenly widened roses
Seem to whisper to me
When you smile
Heavenly widened roses
Seem to whisper to me
When you smileLa la la la, la la la,
Sweet Jane
Sweet, sweet Jane

I never knew it was 'heavenly widened roses' and had always assumed it was 'heavenly wine and roses'.
Very interesting.
The version of Sweet Jane on the Velvet Underground's "1969" is particularly beautiful.
Lou Reed is really something.

it's one of my favourite songs. Lou Reed rocks! and for such a long, long time.......like Leonard Cohen and Van Morrison.....

1969 was recorded in Texas.
From memory he says 'Pull up your cushions and whatever else you have that makes life bearable in Texas' and then goes on about the Eagles and the Cowboys, something like that, some sport or other.

What was that terrible record he did to get out of his RCA(?) contract?
"Metal Machine Music", I think.
Not a lot of sleeping going on.

I'll Be Your Mirror
I'll be your mirror
Reflect what you are, in case you don't know
I'll be the wind, the rain and the sunset
The light on your door to show that youre homeWhen you think the night has seen your mind
That inside you're twisted and unkind
Let me stand to show that you are blind
Please put down your hands
cause I see youI find it hard to believe you don't know
The beauty that you are
But if you don't, let me be your eyes
A hand in your darkness, so you wont be afraidWhen you think the night has seen your mind
That inside youre twisted and unkind
Let me stand to show that you are blind
Please put down your hands
cause I see youIll be your mirror
Andy's ChestIf I could be anything
in the world that flew
I would be a bat and come
swooping after you
And if the last time you were here
things were a bit askewWell, you know what happens after dark
When rattlesnakes lose their skins and their hearts
And all the missionaries lose their barkOh, all the trees are calling after you
And all the venom snipers after you
Are all the mountains boulder after youIf I could be any one of the things
in this world that bite
Instead of a dentured ocelot on a leash
I'd rather be a kite
And be tied to the end of your string
and flying in the air, baby, at night'Cause you know what they say about honey bears
When you shave off all their baby hair
You have a hairy minded pink bare bearAnd all the bells are rolling out for you
And stones are all erupting out for you
And all the cheap bloodsuckers are flying after youYesterday, Daisy Mae and Biff
were groovin' on the street
And just like in a movie
her hands became her feet
Her belly button was her mouth
which meant she tasted what she'd speak, ooohhhBut the funny thing is what happened to her nose, ooohhh
It grew until it reached all of her toes, ooohhh
Now, when people say her feet smell, they mean her noseAnd curtains laced with diamonds, dear for you
And all the Roman noblemen for you
And kingdom's Christian soldiers, dear for you
And melting ice cap mountains tops for you
Oh, oh, and knights in flaming silver robes for you
And bats that with a kiss turn prince for you
Swoop, swoop, oh, baby, rock, rock
Swoop, swoop, rock, rock
Swoop, swoop, rock, rockBy Lou Reed

Pale Blue Eyes
Sometimes I feel so happy
Sometimes I feel so sad
Sometimes I feel so happy
But mostly you just make me mad
Baby, you just make me madLinger on your pale blue eyes
Linger on your pale blue eyesThought of you as my mountain top
Thought of you as my peak
A thought of you as everything
Ive had, but couldnt keep
Ive had, but couldnt keepLinger on your pale blue eyes
Linger on your pale blue eyesSkip a life completely
Stuff it in a cup
They said, money is like us in time
It lies, but cant stand up
Down for you is upLinger on your pale blue eyes
Linger on your pale blue eyesIt was good what we did yesterday
And Id do it once again
The fact that you are married
Only proves youre my best friend
But its truly, truly a sinLinger on your pale blue eyes
Linger on your pale blue eyesIf I could make the world as pure
And strange as what I see
Id put you in a mirror
Id put in front of me
Id put in front of meLinger on your pale blue eyes
Linger on your pale blue eyes
Linger on your pale blue eyes
Linger on your pale blue eyes
Linger on your pale blue eyes
Linger on your pale blue eyes
Linger on your pale blue eyes
Linger on your pale blue eyes
Linger on your pale blue eyes
Linger on your pale blue eyes
Linger on your pale blue eyes
Linger on your pale blue eyes
Linger on your pale blue eyes
Linger on your pale blue eyes

I really like 'Las Vegas', the Cowboy Junkies version of Gram Parsons' song.
It has these wonderful lines
Spent all night at the dealers
Trying to get ahead.
Spent all day at the Holiday Inn
Trying to get out of bed.

TOWNES' BLUES
(Michael Timmins)You're clean as a widow woman's washboard, son,
stick it in the wind
Put the mountains to your back
the great plains on your grille
time to take a little spin
Boulder looks like the type of town
that I could spend some time,
but in Houston they got our name in lights
You're clean as a widow woman's washboard, son,
the slab is yours tonightTownes is in the back lounge
with his hands in his pocket
pulls out two dice and says, 'Let's get at it'Salina in the headlights, snake eyes on the floor,
Al drops another twenty, Pete heads for the door,
Springer's feeling lucky, sits down for a spell,
Oklahoma City and he's lost his last bill
Jeff is in a bind waiting on sister hicks
seven comes a-calling
as we cross on into TexasTownes is in the back lounge
with a fist full of fives
he says, 'It's a little bit long
but I'm enjoying this ride'Be careful with the dice
when you're surrounded by others
with boxcars in their eyes
Never count your winnings at hour 23
of a 24-hour drive
Remember that you're not the one
calling the tune
that's making those diamonds dance
or you'll be clean as
a widow woman's washboard, son,
and those are the factsTownes is in the back lounge cursing at them bones
he says, 'Ain't this fool ever heard of Raton'

Artist: Lou Reed
Album: The Raven (Cd 2)
Year: 2003
Title: Guardian Angel
I have a guardian angel
keep him in my head
When I'm afraid and alone
I call him to my bed
I have a guardian angel
who keeps bad things from me
The only way to ruin it would be for me
not to trust me
The only way to ruin it would be for me
not to trust meI have a guardian angel
who's often saved my life
Through malevolent storms and crystal drums
the angel on my right
Has lifted me up and set me down
always showing me what's right
And if my instinct proved me wrong
the angel set it right
And if my instinct proved me wrong
the angel set it rightHave a guardian angel
I keep him in my head

And when I'm having nightmares
he shows me dreams instead
I have a ring, I have a dress
I have an empty shell
By the books below tea cups
I've kept a kind of hell
By the books below tea cups
I've kept a kind of hellPanic and anxiety
so often in my head
But I had a guardian angel
who took care of me instead
The champagne cork the nightlight owl
a raven and a duck
The seed of pining parents
and your despairing love
The seed of pining parents
and your despairing loveLove and luck both have charmed lives
can change all things about
I had a guardian angel
that's what this is all about
I have a guardian angel
I keep him in my head
When I'm alone and become afraid
he saved my life instead
When I'm alone and become afraid
he saved my life insteadGuardian angel
guardian angel
Guardian angel
guardian angel
