Power and control will always be close at hand when it comes to sex.
My 2 bob's worth is that the mind endows early events with a sexual charge in an effort to heal or negotiate them.This has (of course) nothing particular to do with commercial interests making money out of sex.

I think it's just early stuff. Because our earliest experiences involved profound helplessness and love. And so people seek to recreate all that stuff with varying degrees of (to say the least) tastefulness.
