People sometimes ask me why I act the way I do
"Put away your childish dreams, for they never will come true."
But I'm still dreaming of a day when men can put their guns away
so when they ask me who I think I am, I just smile and say,I am just a song
playing for the world to see
If they would only sing along
we could live in harmonyPeople sometimes tell me, that time is in a hurry
then they still don't understand that life's too short for us to worry
or when someone does me wrong, and I just let them pass on by
they ask me why I don't fight back, and I just laugh as I replyI am just a song
playing for the world to see
If they would only sing along
we could live in harmonyPeople sometimes look at me, as the music starts to play
they say, "Who's this clown that's jumping around? What makes him act this way?"
You see, every melody, reminds me of the way I live
so ask me why I lose control, and here's the answer I will giveI am just a song
playing for the world to see
we all must sing along
if we're to live in harmonyPeople sometimes hear me, and they quickly say they doubt it
but I think they would agree, if they'll take time to think about it
and if I don't see peace on Earth, before death sets me free
I'll still have peace in spirit, and it will not bother mecause I am just a song
playing for them all to see
and if I leave this world alone
I shall leave in harmony
