Really is named Psycho, and she came from the pound with that name. Had nothing to do with this place. She's really skittish and I think she sees aliens or faeries because she'll jump at the slightest movement or noise. She prefers classical music to rock or blues. She likes the Romantic period - Brahms is her favourite. Jazz will enduce her to take leave of the room. Don't even try the Smooth stuff; she'll just flatten her ears and look very put upon.
Her fur is soft on the order of a fluffy bunny rabbit. She won't let you pet her below the waist without a warning kick from her hind feet. She is fastidious about caring for her long coat. I am amazed she doesn't leave little parcels of hairballs all over the house or wakes me up in the middle of the night with that unmistakeable horking sound as one is being brought forth; but she is very sparing with her deliveries, and for this I am grateful. She makes up for it with what fur she deposits on the arms of the furniture and the airborne hair that floats in the eddies of warm currents by the windows. Now that we have wood floors I find it appalling that there are tumbleweeds of her fur that must be swiffered up every other day. Whoever invented those cloths should get a medal and at least be a millionaire. I bet they own a long haired cat. I'm thinking of covering the inside of the front door of our house with double sided tape we can roll ourselves on before we leave to remove the cat evidence as we exit.
When I painted the living room walls it turns out they exactly match the shade of green of my cat's irises. No wonder I love to gaze at them, but not too long as to freak her out. I make friends with most cats by offering my hand and looking the other way. It almost always works. Psycho graces me with her purrs when I whisper complements about how pretty she is; she also places her warm cat heater body on my legs and generous lap. She does not like to be petted while she does her kneading thing, but loves a knuckle in her ear afterward, This grosses me out but I can completely appreciate why it would feel so good to a cat.
She likes her water on the rocks, literally. Someone gave me a waterfountain thingy, a bowl with "authentic river rocks" in it that you could artistically arrange over an overly loud pump. I never bothered to use the fountain but Psycho became quite enamoured of the rock flavoured water. She'll patiently sit beside the bowl and meow quietly when I come over with a cup of water to refill the level to cover the rocks so she can lap it up. I think she imagines that she is at a river's edge, waiting for her prey to happen along.
Her prey, as it happens, are practice golf balls. Yellow, flock-covered plastic balls. She is by far the most playful cat I've ever known, and the laziest at the same time. If you pick up one of her balls (after digging it out from under the sofa, of course), she lies on her side so that when you throw her the ball, she can catch it with both paws. Then she nuzzles the ball with her nose, and tosses it away. Sometimes it looks like she tosses it in my general direction on purpose. It is the cutest cat trick I have ever seen, honest to goodness.
Anyways, my cat is not smart, but she is beautiful. She knows when I am unhappy. When I cry she stays close to me. She yells the least at me for food because she knows I won't cave in. She does not ever give up on me.
She is my Psycho kitty.

If I tell you all about my puppy dog do you think you could write something like that about her for me? (Damos turning a nice jade green with envy)
Thanks so much CS, at a time when there has been so much hurt and loss going on for so many, your post was a gift from heaven.
Thank you. I think Sarah and Psycho would get along really well.

Cats are without a doubt one of the more amazing animals around, I love them. Yours sounds quite amazing. Do you think cats take on their owners personality traits? I often wonder if this isn't so after seeing my affectionate friend with her affectionate cat and my lazy friend with his lazy cat. That would explain why all my cats seem to be a little manic at times.
My little terror is staying at my grandmothers house while I am at school, although I think grannie has spoiled her so much she won't want to come home. I think I will leave Mia, named after Mia Farrow, with grannie because they seem to love each other very much and grandma's need a companion around that gives them unconditional love.

That way you can give another cat a home when you finish school! I agree with your cat/owner personality theory, though it does not explain all my bad hair days.
