Hamlet’s dressed in Goth black
On a Chrysler Building ledge,
Chatting up a phantom,
His right toes upon the edge,
Hearing mysteries whispered,
Cruel truths that drive a wedge
Between what once was believed,
And what now must be pledged.Chrome art deco beauty,
Dagger of corporate might,
It all depends on the eyes
That you bring to the sight
Of a skyscraper scalpel
Glittering in cold moonlight,
A spell cast in forged steel
Upon children of the night.Kings who kill their brothers,
Maidens drowned in Central Park,
Queens poisoned with a pearl,
They all have left their mark,
Friends betrayed with a pen stroke,
Snuffed stage lights in the dark,
Tears shed for fallen Hamlet,
The skyline sharp and stark.Chrome art deco beauty,
Dagger of corporate might,
It all depends on the eyes
That you bring to the sight
Of a skyscraper scalpel
Glittering in cold moonlight,
A spell cast in forged steel
Upon children of the night.

Yeah, I heard these as song lyrics when they came to me. I've been listening to a lot of Dylan recently, and I've become really intrigued with the lyrical structure of his work. So I've taken to writing tunes minus the melodies. I'd love it if I could compose whole songs, but melodies just don't bubble up in my thoughts the way phrases and metaphors do. Ta. Atticus
