why the hell I'm going here is beyond me

Well, why not I thought, the kids I played with
were fine. we had fun, we ran around and played
And I didn't understand the distinctions that were made.

But they got sort of funny when it came to my friends. Seemed their color mattered
And they used to pretend, that they wanted me
to play with the kids of their friends
whether I liked 'em or not...and that was the end.

So of course I started hearing this crap called rhythm and blues...Fats Domino, Bo Diddley, doo-w*p shoobey-does.

I was lucky, there weren't no saints marchin in

I've spent this nite full of hatred for a docor who wanted to lock me in.

Man, those people rocked a storefront of a sunday and into the night. Praising god with such ructious joy, that they always changed me from a grey catholic boy
to a kid who'd listen in wonder and whim
