Ok, Ok here's one... this one's in my head a lot
I'll play it for you:
"Kathy, I'm lost I said, though I knew she was sleeping. I'm empty and aching and I don't know why. Counting the cars on the New Jersey turnpike, they've all come to look for America.."
Do you know the artist??
I do, but this is a quiz.

Hi, hope I don't have to transcribe them...my typings been vodkafied. But, what the hell.
Bob Dylan, "it's all over now, baby blue"
Lennon and McCartney,,,,this is by way of progression in time: "There's a place", Then , "A girl", then "I'm so tired", oops, the best of 'em all..."In my life" oh, what the hey, "why don't we do it in the road." Great love song-"here there and every where" Yeah, personal fave's "I don't want to spoil the party" and "I'm a loser" Gosh, I wonder why?
Now, we gotta, gotta, gotta, hit the 'stones"
"complicated" from 'between the Buttons" And
"Gimme Shelter" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash".
You know, Jagger and Richards are not given the credit they are due.
But, how can I forget the greatest paen to peace love and understanding from the 60's...Tommy James and the Shondelles.."Hanky Panky" And the Who, "Baba O'reilly" if not for nothing..."It's only teenage wasteland.."
Oh, sweet jesus, I'm on a run..."Bad Moon rising" CCR. And the sadly forgotten, "Macarthur Park" "Alice's restaurant" "American Pie...actually too damn long" "Go ask Alice" Jeff. Airplane. Yeah, "And along comes Mary" The association.
And, george Michael "never gonna dance again"
lord was that a great song or what. and of course because I'm being a bore, "Daydream" by the 'spoonfull" Yeah, and "Feelings" and for those of us who are truly religious "Spirit In the Sky" Norman Greenbaum. And, god bless, us the greatest anti-war song.."Surfin Bird" by the Trashmen. And you have a truly devious mind.
And "Fun, fun, fun" and "let's do it again, Beachboys [I suspect that you've started a riot] cockeyed

"And the moon rose over an open field" Yeah, thanks for making me cry. I think it might of been Carry Fisher's Hubby. Cockeyed.
hey, do I get a prize?

Alex, I'll take "Great Lyrics" for $400... What is, Simon & Garfunkel? So where do I collect my winnings? <GRIN> The song is "America", am I remembering right?

One of my favorite S&G songs is "For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her":

What I dream I had:
Pressed in organdy;
Clothed in crinoline of smoky burgundy;
Softer than the rain.
I wandered empty streets
Down past the shop displays.
I heard cathedral bells
Tripping down the alley ways,
As I walked on.

And when you ran to me
Your cheeks flushed with the night.
We walked on frosted fields of juniper and lamplight,
I held your hand.
And when I awoke and felt you warm and near,
I kissed your honey hair with my grateful tears.
Oh I love you, girl.
Oh, I love you.

Congratulations!! You're in the running for final jeopardy! The category is "Ancient Mesopotamian Basketweaving"!

Yes, it's Paul Simon, from his solo days, and the song is "America". The man writes good lyrics eh?

Patsy Cline

f you've got leavin' on your mind,
tell me now,
get it over,
hurt me now,
get it over,
so I may learn to love again.

If there's a new love in your heart,
tell me now,
get it over,
hurt me now,
get it over,

and at this point I usually just sing the refrain because it's my F***in life.

Okay, so I'm whacked. I suspect that Simon's "and the moon rose over an open field" is every bit as Van Gogh as one can gogh.
Yeah, and for us manly men..."where have you gone, Joe Domaggio, our nation rises our lonely eyes to you..." Vietnam, Mr.Coffee, and if you are a basegall nut, racism. Well, one can always fall back on "Ahab the Arab" or
"Gosh, General Custer, I don' wanna go" Or the sublime Roger MIller's "In the summertime."
But don't go anywhere near "Strange Fruit"
That's from hell. Cockeyed.

9th & Hennepin - t. waits

Well it's Ninth and Hennepin
All the doughnuts have names that sound like prostitutes
And the moon's teeth marks are on the sky
Like a tarp thrown all over this
And the broken umbrellas like dead birds
And the steam comes out of the grill
Like the whole goddamn town's ready to blow...
And the bricks are all scarred with jailhouse tattoos
And everyone is behaving like dogs
And the horses are coming down Violin Road
And Dutch is dead on his feet
And all the rooms they smell like diesel
And you take on the dreams of the ones who have slept here
And I'm lost in the window, and I hide in the stairway
And I hang in the curtain, and I sleep in your hat...
And no one brings anything small into a bar around here
They all started out with bad directions
And the girl behind the counter has a tattooed tear
"One for every year he's away", she said
Such a crumbling beauty, ah
There's nothing wrong with her that a hundred dollars won't fix
She has that razor sadness that only gets worse
With the clang and the thunder of the Southern Pacific going by
And the clock ticks out like a dripping faucet
'til you're full of rag water and bitters and blue ruin
And you spill out over the side to anyone who will listen...
And I've seen it all, I've seen it all
Through the yellow windows of the evening train...

Dr. Robert
Ring, my friend I said you'd call Doctor
Robert
Day or night, he'll be there anytime at all
Doctor Robert.

If you're dfown, he'll pick you up,
Doctor Robert.
Take a drink from his special cup,
Doctor Robert, Doctor Robert

You're a new and better man
He helps you to understand
He does every thing he can, Dr. Robert
He's a man you must believe
Helping anyone in need
No one can succeed like Doctor Robert.

Well, well, well you're feeling
very fine
Well, well, well, your'e feeling
very fine
Well, well, well, you're feeling
very fine.

proably some more verses but I can't
remember...oh, yeah, WBC AMradio way back
when Dicky Summers hadn't dreamed of doing
the Binder&Binder voice-overs. cockeyed.

Plese stop me from this mindimplosion. I love these songs because they are so beguilingly stupid....Angel Babey, rosie and the originals.
"let it all hang out" the hombres. "Alley oop" the Hollywood Argyles. Manfredd Mann "Do-wah-Diddy" "Hello, Hello" sopwith Camel. "Kama-Kama-Sutra with Me" Bonzo Dog Band. "third rate romance, Low-rent rendezvous" And my favorite "coming out song" Cheryl Crow, "All I wanna do is have some fun" [first song I heard coming out of a coma after by-pass surgery. talk about getting a good buzz on early in the morning] "Wolly Bully" Sam the Sham. "Shotgun" Junior Walker and the all stars. "Eight miles High" I wonder why? cockeyed
