my ultimateLove her or hate her she has some amazing lyrics. She plays the tragic woman quite well... And then (round when I was starting DBT) she seemed to have some that really were trying to be healthy. They helped me. Now I see a sickness still in most of her attempts... But still.
I think some people set up a little community somewhere in the US trying to realise Skinners ideal. Utopia based on alteration of reinforcement contingencies. I don't know how well that worked out for them, or whether they are still doing that.
Imagine Babble IRL... What a fascinating yet slightly disturbing idea...

Thanks for posting these lyrics. I'm a fan of hers. Am actually listening to the CD that song is on as I type!!
I'd be interested in discussing the sickness you see in her lyrics. I feel like I analyze them to death sometimes. It'd be fun to do it with someone else. Pick a song and babblemail me if you'd like!

I used to analyse them a lot too.
And get so deeply into her moods / attitudes.
I think...
It was indulging my flaws.
Sometimes.But sometimes I am in the mood for it
And I really get into her music.
I feel a bit the same with Pink Floyd. I really like "Animals". Its a lesser known one, but I think it is far better than "The Wall". They can be a bit depressing.And The Eels "Electroshock Blues" which I like to listen to when I'm depressed as well.
And "Rage Against the Machine" sometimes.
I don't know.
I'm trying to get into stuff thats a bit lighter or more cheerful or something... Something a bit less intense.

Under Rug Swept European concert tour.i esp love "Sister Blister" a song about how women degrade themselves so that men would allow them into their own club or love them.
i don't know what happened to my perception of So Called Chaos. I used to love the CD but now it seems so trite.
as far as utopia goes, would we really be able to function/survive w/out going insane in such a society/world? remember the Matrix where humans rejected the program in which they were living in a perfect world with no pain or discomfort?
I often wonder if Alanis has a touch of BPD. i can't even begin to draw references from her music that sounds BPDish to me. What do you think?

I've heard "Jagged Little Pill" "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie" the one with Utopia on it. And I have a cassingle thats got a couple songs of Infat. I could relate.But now I worry about her contribution, her role in the constant unjustices. I think some of that comes out unwittingly in her songs. Even though its toned down since "Jagged Little Pill"

Hey, Alex K....I play guitar. used to goof onher first shot.."you oughta Know" but then I listened and I listened some more. And AM has it in spades, like that other canadian, what's her name..."big yellow taxi" jeez, I'm so lame...she chain smokes ciggies, and I can't get her name...oh thank god, Joni. Joni Mitchell. She and Leonard Cohen and that guy, Neil Young...man I love "Cinnamon girl" of all the songs he's done. What's with those canadians they seem to have a plan of how to make music that will speak to women and man. Now, in Utopia, you've got to allow fights...arguments, discussions, wrongs and rights. Tell the truth I'm so far in the wrong, that it does me good to get my head turned around, especially in song.
But AM is special. She seems to be one of those people who get it on whoever they be. Cockeyed.

So Called Chaos and Feast on Scraps have lots of good stuff on them! And I think So Called Chaos is pretty upbeat too, so you might like it a lot. I don't have the CDs with me right now, but in a couple of days when I'm back home, I'd be happy to upload them to you.

<<<<< When you think about the amount of time between albums, I'm not sure it's really a one minute then the next kind of thing. I've got some stuff on my computer at home where she talks about why she wrote many of her songs and things like that. I think she does a good job of explaining the changes and what spurred her growth along. I'll upload that for you too!

How she's learned a lot more about responsibility taking and how she's no longer riding the wave of emotions like she was when she was 19 and wrote Jagged Little Pill. Again, I can upload this too! LOL. If you want Alanis stuff, I'm a person who can hook you up!
