The tears,
They come stumbling
Down your coffee-colored cheeks,
Salty
As new blood,
Fresh-cut and diamond-sleek.
I see
My own ice-blue eyes
Reflected in their silent shriek,
As my
Gaze glides past me
And then drips out of reach. It’s just more
Weeping in the city,
Just more
Weeping in the city,
Just as normal as Times Square’s
Neon embrace taking you in.
It’s just more
Weeping in the city,
Just more
Weeping in the city,
How much weight can a teardrop
Bear to hold, how much sin?Damp spine
Under my fingers
Shudders from the storm within,
Puddles
Pool in your skull,
Amid the yellow cab din,
Shiny
Bolts of crystal
Lightning under eyes grown dim,
You dared
To hope and, baby,
Around here, sweet dreams grow thin. It’s just more
Weeping in the city,
Just more
Weeping in the city,
Just as normal as Times Square’s
Neon embrace taking you in.
It’s just more
Weeping in the city,
Just more
Weeping in the city,
How much weight can a teardrop
Bear to hold, how much sin?Your sobs,
Soft as moonlight,
Play in my ears, a tidal roar,
Saying
“I love you” just
Don’t make it so, never did before,
“… Ever after”
Is hard to come by,
Don’t think it lives ’round here no more,
But I’ll
Hold you when they
Break you, sweep the pieces off the floor. It’s just more
Weeping in the city,
Just more
Weeping in the city,
Just as normal as Times Square’s
Neon embrace taking you in.
It’s just more
Weeping in the city,
Just more
Weeping in the city,
How much weight can a teardrop
Bear to hold, how much sin?

my goodness how I love your poems. You make me feel like I'm in the city (I'm very close to the city, a suburb of NYC).
Do you live in Manhattan?
-you don't have to say if you don't want to of course-I figured it might be a fair guess though

No, it's a fair question. I do live in Manhattan, and I have my whole life. Upper East Side, at the moment, but I go walkabout downtown, in the East and West Village, frequently. Atticus

I really liked this poem. It's so sad, and yet bittersweet at heart. Just thought I'd let you know that I read it and heard it.

Glad you liked it, PM. Thanks for taking the time to drop me a note. It's really the only way I know if I'm connecting with people or not on this page. Ta. Atticus
