After 2 months of just sitting and gathering flies(the small ones) The Dishes are Done. As Ive laid in my bed, and tried to rest my head, waiting for someone to wake me up from this nightmare, this depression that haunts like so many ghosts at once, tearing at my soul beckoning me to come withe them, I ask them, Why Me, why are you calling Me. Ive neglected this life, I'm not living now, For I am only breathing. I do not want to neglect, What in out brain turns that neglectful part in to full throttle? Today, for reasons I do not know, I accomplished something, The Dishes are Done. Its my hope this feeling that made me do this today, will be there tommorow. I have Hope.

If you are getting the hang of it you are welcome to come do ours ;-)
Seriously, though, I understand about how very hard it can be to GET UP and do SOMETHING when you are feeling depressed. Something like that really can be a major acomplishment that signifies that things have started turning for the better :-)
I lived in a flat once and the dishes built up...
You would wash something BEFORE you wanted to use it.
Eventually we had to put them in the bathtub.
A whole bottle of dishwash liquid and we let them soak for a couple of days.
After that we could wash them normally.
That wasn't depression though, it was laziness...
Thats what you get for flatting with 6 teenage guys.

See chili, now you've done the dishes twice! ; )
I don't think alex was implying in her comment that you are lazy (right alex?). Functioning requires motivation, we all have it, but motivation is thwarted by all sorts of problems like anxiety, depression, illness and others. Sometimes we can even be overly motivated when we are psychotic, manic or obsessed, for example. For me, I have a unduely strong aversion to paperwork in my job. I'm not sure why exactly, but my T says I'm not lazy or else I wouldn't perform so well in other areas of my work. One of the things to consider is that there is a kind of psychological momentum to functioning. When we perform well we hopefully are appreciated by others and develop self-esteem, while conversely when we perform less than we would expect of ourselves our anxiety and lowered self image interferes with our performance in a self-perpetuating kind of way. Humans have an uncanny capacity for beating themselves up all the time.
Anyway, congratulations chili for doing the dishes. I hope that this is a new trend for you.

Absolutely not. I thought it was clear that Chili was depressed (and that hopefully doing the dishes signified that things were moving on the up - YAY!) while my flatmates, on the other hand, were excedingly lazy.
I agree with everything you said, Toph.
I have a problem with seeing myself as 'lazy' too. I don't work like I 'should'. But then half the battle is all the 'shoulds'.
But depression... Thats not laziness... Thats something else... But then laziness tends not to be 'laziness' either... More a case of depression... My flatmates, on the other hand were in their first flat away from Mummy.
BRING ON THE MESS - HO!
I think they were seriously trying to win the messiest flat contest or something..

they weren't the last chore you had to do, were they?
Something troubled my mind within your post... can't put my finger on it...
Have you done something just for you today?

I agree. Well done. My solution to your problem was to throw away every single dish in my house, and live with one plate, one bowl, one cup, one knife, one spoon, one fork. Maybe one pan and one dish to cook in. How bad could my kitchen POSSIBLY get with only that. Inevitably I ended up with my meger set of dishes sitting in cold stagnant water in my sink.
At least it all fit in one side.

<<<I've actually done this in the past--more than once. However, with five children, I am unable to to utilize this method of unwashed dishes prevention. And it does work, because even if every dish is dirty, it is not a *completely* overwhelming or impossible task to get get them clean. I like this method quite well!
And Chili, you are not alone!!! We hear you loud and clear, thanks for opening up and sharing.
