You're such a gentleman.

You dropped her off first, I suppose,
so she didn't have to walk through the cold.
Or perhaps it was raining.
You came in, joined her briefly,
very confident, looking over her shoulder.
Two people, sure of each other,
comfortable with their lives together.

You turned, and walked confidently
over to choose a movie for yourself.
And as you walked to the self-checkout,
my eyes met yours, and I grinned
beatifically, like an infant at its mother,
unable to stop myself
from feeling complete happiness.

I just don't understand.
