Uncertain

Posted by Susan47 on February 3, 2005, at 17:57:51

I am, but I think perhaps you were one of the few people who saw beauty in me ... unreal, to think I could be carrying beauty inside ... to think that perhaps it might sometimes show, enough to be appreciated before my light goes out forever. How selfish, how unbearably selfish I am.

it isn't selfish for you to want others to see beauty in you. i mean, it isn't selfish in the sense of the word that it hurts others. the word "selfish" has several meanings for me. one means survival. you have to be selfish in order to survive. one means putting yourself above others all the time, hurting others. to want to be seen as beautiful falls under the first definition. you want to be admired because that is what makes you feel meaningful in this world. and to feel meaningful is necessary. just some thoughts...

I agree, Smokey. BTW let me show my ignorance, if you should see this tell me what smokeymadison is? I like the sound of it very much.

Sorry to butt in (haha) but that is Not a Good Attitude. Can you imagine, do you know what a stroke can do to a person? That kind of life, in the worst case scenario, you don't want. Best case, you have a lot of work to do to get back to a percentage of what you were like previously. Do what you can to cut down on the smoking while you're on the pill at least; give yourself a break.
Lecture over.
Slap Susan's hands.

If you don't smoke, drink, and have sex
you don't live longer...
It just feels like it.

Have you heard that before? :-)

I share your attitude there. Considering that my preference would be to be dead much of the time death isn't really much of a deterrant to me.
And as for a long and painful death, well...
Come on euthenasia laws...

Tobacco is a dirty weed,
I like it.
It satisfies no normal need,
I like it.
It makes you thin, it makes you lean,
It takes the hair right off your bean.
It's the worst darn stuff I've ever seen.
I like it.

Wouldn't it be nice, though, if you could smoke cigarettes without all the chemicals and additives in them? I mean, you know, smoke from a natural leaf. In the theatre we use herbal cigarettes. One of these days I wouldn't mind smoking one onstage.... I wonder what they're like. Herbal. I think that must just be without the additives, and made of herbs, not tobacco. Weird. I mean, smoking herb wouldn't any smoke be bad for you? What do they smoke, oregano?

I tried herbals last summer. They smell like weed. A friend of mine came over and I had just finished one and he said I thought you gave that up years ago! Anyway, on the package it still lists some carcinogens like tar. So, they are not totally inocuous - just not addictive.

Yes, right, it's the tar we fill our lungs with. That's what hurts. So I wonder if oregano or whatever it is has less tar than tobacco leaf, and I wonder what marijuana has?

I don't know about oregano, but I have read that marijuana contains higher concentrations of carcinogens and tar than does tobacco. And, when we smoke pot and hash, it is unfiltered. That being said, unlike smoking, a person is going to smoke 25 joints in one day. So . . .
