Just Because
Chillin’ on a bench
In Central Park,
Sittin’ next to God,
Lookin’ for flaws. He turns my Diet Coke
Into a Guinness,
Always knows how to
Draw my applause.A young boy shyly
Slips up to Him,
Says, “Mister, are you
Santa Claus?”God eyes him for a
Long, long moment,
Then He fries the kid
Without a pause.I ask, “Just what did
You do that for?”
He shrugs, grins and winks,
Says, “Just because.”

Thanks for the kudos. I thought the Santa Claus reference made it kind of seasonal. And posting on my own site first further cements my copyright and sole ownership of the poem, although any creative piece that I have posted on PBW first is equally protected. You don't have to put a copyright notice on your work anymore -- you haven't had to for years. As soon as an original work is "fixed in a tangible form of expression," as the Court has noted, it's mine alone. No matter what the PB Writing site says at the top, it doesn't override federal copyright laws passed and consistently stengthened by the U.S. Supreme Court. I didn't sign any legally binding contract granting reproduction rights of any kind to any of my poems to anyone. I should know how this works. I used to be a TA and then later taught a course in Media Law at my alma mater's top-rated journalism school. Just wanted to make sure you're aware of this, Dr. Bob. Anyway, glad you got a kick out of it, Jai. Ta. The Brat Prince, Atticus

Welcome back.
Your poem produced quite a burst of laughter!! Suited my dark mood perfectly.
It also made me think of my son who is turning 7 in a couple of weeks and still believes in Santa Claus. I would like to "just because" to whomever breaks this fantasy.
