poem ... Cheshire Cats Like me Flash Smiles

Cheshire Cats Like me Flash Smiles

Playing croquet in Central Park
With live pink flamingo mallets
Is thirsty work, I need refreshments
As does my tattooed pierced friend Alice
And the Walrus and the Carpenter
Recall the fall of NASDAQ’s palace
While the Hatter in Trump Tower
Screams, “You’re fired!” with snide malice.

In an Avenue A back alley
The Jabberwocky’s high on crack
And he’s in the crosshairs of Crips hired
By a Bandersnatch blissed on smack
But the White Rabbit was so twitchy
I had to give him a Xanax snack
Before I stole and pawned his pocket watch
To a dormouse who drives a hack.

Deep in the shadows of the 6 line
Where the magic mushrooms grow,
A pimpin’ caterpillar’s sitting pretty
Amid the yuppies on the go
Watching with psychedelic smugness
As they trundle to and fro,
Tweedledees and Tweedledums
Swept in the subway current’s flow.

“Off with their heads!” squawks the Queen,
Her bag-lady court in a grocery cart,
But all the chessman just say, “Fu** you,”
And keep on truckin’ for their part.
Mayor Humpty-Dumpty’s strutting,
A shell trying to look smart
But Cheshire Cats like me flash smiles
And stay hazy and apart.

Alice never had it so good! You have taken my favorite poem/story and made it into a current news flash. My god you just always tickle my ...what ever you call it?
I think you are my poem hero. I love all your poems....every single one. Some bring be to tears with the beauty, some are salty dogs that bark in my psyche....all are so brilliant.
Okay I must know what stimulated this one?
Where do you write these?
At work on your break?
If your parents need to know anything about your talent...
I will tell them you are a prince, prize....
very publishable.
We are coming closer to your birthday.
Are you having a party on babble?
We do love cyber celebrations.
Should I post a count down on social?
My sisters wonder why I love babble so much....well your poetry is a big part. I wish they would visit. I have tried to get them here.

Hi Jai,
This poem really just came from an image that popped unbidden into my head on the way to work: a punked-out Alice and I playing the famous flamingo croquet game on Central Park's Great Lawn. Then I just extended the thought to draw some of the other characters into my down-the-rabbit-hole, through-the-looking-glass urban milieu. It just seemed natural that such a playful poem should rhyme. I knocked it out right after lunch while my boss was out of the office, then had a second look later and tweaked it in a few places. I think I was just looking to write something different than the punk-inspired and romanticism-drenched pieces that I've been doing lately. Sometimes, it's just time to play. Ta! ;) Atticus, who will now fade away, leaving only a grin behind ('til next time)

here kitty kitty kitty....come on you kitty-cat :) (nm)
