Graveyard Poem

Posted by Angela2 on May 13, 2004, at 17:40:57

It was just after
9/11/01
Morgan and I
drove
To Oakwood
Cemetery
To take pictures
For her photo assignment
The radio personality
Was talking
About
War
And
Biological
Warfare

Everyone
Was
Talking
About
It

We roamed the graveyard like curious cats
Taking
Pictures
With a plaster mask
And a blue Corset
Of
Marble
Tombs
And Obelisks

It started to rain
And
Water
Droplets
Spattered on the lens

We got into the car
And shifted into ‘drive’
But
The car went in ‘reverse’

It was scary
Like loosing your child in the mall
It was that same feeling

I got out to check and see if we were on a slope
We weren’t
The first thing we both thought
Although unbelievable
Was that some supernatural
Apparition
Had moved the car against its will
Like a ghost with nothing to do decided to play a game with us
We left more unsettled than we came
The unknown could in fact be
Anything
Like a child’s imagination in the dark
It was the most memorable trip to a graveyard I ever had.
