Drifting away

Posted by Toph on April 21, 2004, at 12:18:32

3 a.m. The dog nuzzles my face ostensibly because he has had a bad dream. Reassuured with the knowledge that I am still alive, he lays down and soon slips from consciousness into a leashless world of romping bitches and prime rib. Now hopelessly awake, my nightmare is just beginning. I lie listening to my wife breathe a slow, rhythmic respiration like waves washing upon the beach. Neither her pleasant scent nor the warmth of her resting body are sufficient comfort to ease the dread and self-doubt that drones relentlessly through my brain. An hour passes before I resign that natural sleep is a futile hope. Defeated, I stumble through an obstacle course in the dark arriving at the sink. Pausing for a brief moment I contemplate how dark my existance has become before groping for the Xanax. Careful not to disturb my compaions I lay back down waitng patiently for the decending narcotic fog. Eventually my mental demons retreat to their dens where they wait poised to attack tomorrow night's familiar victim.

very well told....thank you. (nm)

***Where are they....I hope you don't think I am being silly....I am such a terrible speller and have so little structure in my sentences....I am not and will not stand in criticism of you.
But I am so curious as to where the typos are.
I like the writing no matter what.

This is wonderful. I really enjoyed reading it. You write so well. Thank you.

Thanks, I confess that I am not much of a writer in a literary sense, in fact, regretably I'm not much of a reader. But this newly discovered web-site provides a wonderful community for us emotionally-challenged folks to express ourselves freely and anonymously. Freely, that is, without the contentious insults and criticism that is characteristic of so many other internet sites. (Shameless compliment to Dr. Bob)

JN, "existance" should be 'existence;' "compaions" should be 'companions;' "waitng" should be 'waiting' . There are probably more. I'm glad there were people who related to what I wrote, but really, insomnia is a drag.
