not able to calm myself, i am going to tell myself it will pass.
i am going to allow the last vestige of alertness to disappear, and then
i am going to sleep. but i feel as if all day i slept on the sand while the waters advanced
and with the fullness of the tide my last breath would pass while my body was forgotten.
i felt a slow panic that is slowly giving way to calm despair. can those of us who will die in our sleep
have a premonition of this passing in the slow horror
that strikes waking hours? could some crime have been committed
that blurs the worlds together, forces them to join
into something that is neither sleep nor waking, but a jagged state in between
that combines the worst of both? but now it's nearing its end,as it has many times,
nightmare-waking gives way to calm despair
