Is age an issue?

Posted by DisTraught on October 7, 2007, at 9:25:44

Hi,

I really, really dislike my job, because I teach adults and I find it exhausting being nice to people all day long. I start at 8 a.m. and finish at 7p.m. a few days a week, the others at five. I've applied for tons of other job, but in my country you're about as attractive on the labout market as the ebola virus if you're female,50, regardless of what qualifications you have.
Although I'm currently depressed, I've applied for lots of jobs just to get out of the place that makes me depressed. to no avail. Is age an issue where you live, too?

Regards
Penny

Hi Penny,

I think it absolutely is. I have gone on so many interviews where I have all of the qualifications, but don't get the job. I think I get the interviews because I don't put that I graduated college in 1980, I leave the year off and list the years I got certificates (2003, 2007) so I look younger on paper. Problem is in person I don't look 25, I look like a 40 something (unless I do look 50 in which case I am doomed.)

I am not job hunting right now, I've only had my latest job for six months, but am going to start looking in six months and I am afraid that even with a fresh certificate in the field of choice, I will get passed over for someone younger. I hate aging.
