Look who is posting on this board!!!!

The person who hasn't worked in over 2 years. Wahhh?? One of my former co-workers with whom I've kept in touch has asked me to help fill in tomorrow as they've got a crunch at work.

I'm gobsmacked. Totally out of the blue, totally not something I've been looking for, but also, totally something I'm *ready* for. And it's a trial. I'll be helping them out for an afternoon, seeing what the place is like, and they'll be seeing what I'm like, too.

If I didn't already believe in fate - and I do - then I'd believe that the timing is just about right for this risk free job trial.

Lucky, lucky me.

And I at least know that I'm the person they'll call if they have another personnel crunch like yesterday. Using a software package after 3 years was yikes! time but it's a quiet office so I played around to refamiliarize myself with it. Whether this parlays into anything more than a fill-in position isn't a concern for me. And if I get hungry for more than just doing this, I'll be able to use this office as a reference, eventually. Happy day!

I was told to bill the office for my time at a rate I considered fair, so I picked a nice high number and they'll mail me a cheque next week.

Boy, oh boy am I glad that I didn't have many bridges to burn. There was even a sales rep who came in and remembered who I was.

ClearSkies returns from the unemployed dead. Amazing.

That's great Clearskies. I'm glad it went well. Feeling ready to do something is a good feeling.

Hi ClearSkies,

I declare 2007 the Year of the Employment Zombie. I came back from the unemployment dead and now it looks like you might be the next Employment Zombie.

Fantastic that it went well and it paid well. What a bonus!

Way to go CS!

By new, maybe software, I'm thinking the MS ... 'words to numbers sts'.(?)

It sounds like 'medical' as mention sales rep.

I've always worked in a medical setting, usually transcribing, but also secretarial. They call secretaries admin assts now. My prob' never learned Excel other than to 'familiarize myself a little when extra time'. The whole 'equation' thing not for me I guess. Wish I'd taken bookkeeping when I was younger.

Came over here to post about trying to get a PT position after 7years! OMgoodness can't believe it's been 7yrs!(?)

Oh jeez, I see 'lack of job references' posted above. I'd have trouble tracking anyone down after so long.

I gotta' do something. I'm not making it to the end of the month w/o a struggle.

Almost did a search over the long weekend, but ran out of a med and feel asleep instead.

Anyway, just wanted to say I'm happy 4u and way to go ClearSkies!

Thanks - it was software relating to dental practice. Charting, scheduling, billing, insurance, is all done on the computer now, and most 21st century dentist offices use the same package.
I do the front office stuff - checking in patients, answering the phones. Trust me, you don't really want your dental hygienist doing your insurance paperwork! (No offense meant to hygienists.)

Nothing has come up since the afternoon I worked but I'm glad to have put myself out there.

Wouldn't you know that today I heard about one of the patients who is also looking for a some-time pet sitter.
I tell you, you just don't know where the next opportunity might come from. I remember this lady from the afternoon I worked - she was desperate to network! - I filed her name in the least accessible part of my brain.
And my friend called today, and mentioned that this lady was still looking for a pet sitter, and wondered if I had any interest in doing the job.

Now I don't know - pet sitter? I mind my own pets just fine; and a friend, who has a lovely kitty, well, we trade cat-sitting favours all year long. But I think we're talking more along the lines of a paying proposition here, and I don't know where to start thinking about it.

Hi CS,

I've never been a paid pet setter, but have cared for friend's pets from lizards to cats to dogs. Find out what kind of pets she has, in case she has one that you wouldn't be comfortable with.

I remember when I took care of a friend's bassett hound and she told me up front to get him back in the house again I would need to yell "cookies" and have a handfull of treats to reward him with.

Yeah, I thought about this and I'm not a dog person. (Shhh, don't let on! Especially to the dogs I know!) So I'm not going to pursue this particular opportunity. Things are gearing up at the science centre where I volunteer, and there's an arts centre that just put out a call for volunteers, so I think I'm going to stick with the stuff I genuinely *like* to do for now.

And last weekend the coastal cleanup group I belong to picked up 7 tons of garbage behind a housing project. That's a cause near and dear to my heart. It feels really good to do something that is so fulfilling.

So I can't say I'm not kept busy and challenged.

Was hoping you'd not take dog-sitting.

Any1 who won't take pet to a nice 'pet motel' could have some issues w/ their animals. I've heard a few bad stories.

I'd have to feel real comfortable w/ most any dog b4 taking this on.

I wish you could get a position at the Art ctr.

I was thinking the same thing - that the owner might have control issues, or make some unreasonable demands on the person doing the sitting. Or want "extra" household services that I wouldn't be comfortable providing, like being at the house for service people, etc. I'll never know because I threw away her number (and felt a huge relief in doing so!). But from what I can recall from meeting her briefly, she was a legend in her own mind, if you get my drift; so I'm doubly glad I passed this one by.

I think I am going to call on the art center after my therapy appointment this week, when I'm pumped up and as full of myself as I'll ever be during the week! Nothing like seeing my T to help me think I can tackle a new challenge :-)
