had the talk with boss

Posted by TexasChic on January 26, 2007, at 11:36:27

i didn't realize that was what she wanted to meet about so i was completely unprepared. But it went fairly well. i still have a really hard time getting her to understand what i'm trying to say - she misinterprets practically everything i say. But she's trying, so i will too. its still weird, but better. She told me i need to stop being so nervous and afraid i'm going to be fired. And she pretty much told me i need to just spout off and tell her when she makes me mad. But that's so so hard for me! But she told me i would explode if i didn't let things out. i guess i'll just take it one day at a time.

Gawd Texas C -

Many would kill to be told by their boss to spout off when she makes them mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, even if you can't spout off, you now know that you're NOT going to get fired and that your boss WANTS to hear from you!!!!!!!!!!

I guess you can fly with that at your own comfort level. I hope you feel more relaxed now.

I'm so glad it went ok in that
1) you weren't fired or threatened with it
2) your boss wants to know how you feel/what you think
3) your boss is savvy enough that she has spoken out about the harm of keeping things bottled up inside.

Pretty cool situation although I hear that you're still far from comfortable.

(((((((((((((((((((((((you)))))))))))))))))))

luv, Kath

Thanks everyone!

Yeah, i definitely feel better. She wasn't exactly easy on me, but she definitely wanted me to know i'm wanted. The main thing i learned is when she's stessed she's libel to say anything, and i have to learn not to take it personally. Just another learning experience i guess!

I'm glad she wants you to know that you're wanted.

You know, it tees me off when people use stress as an excuse to "say ANYthing" & then want the other people to "not take it personally".

I'm not trying to make you think badly of your boss or to unsettle you & I'm not even talking about your boss with this.

It just seems to me that some people don't take responsibility for how the things they say might affect others...then expect others to make allowances for them.

Just thinking.

I agree completely. However people have this annoying habit of doing what they want. And we have to deal with them. If I want to advance in my career (and deal with life in general) that means I'll probably have to deal with some formidable people. Maybe this is my chance to train for that, and do so with someone who's willing to teach me. We'll see what happens!
