Job ideas anyone??

Posted by mattye on November 2, 2006, at 17:43:26

I'm currently unemployed and I'm looking for a job. One thing that I've learned about myself is that I have a very hard time dealing with cubicle jobs. I have ADHD and depression. Sitting in front of a computer all day makes me very agitated and depressed. I have a college degree, but I prefer to do work that involves a lot of movement. Recently, I was temping at a convenetion hotel setting up thousands tables and chairs. It was repetitive and boring, but it kept me very physically active and helped with my depression.

Can you guys think of any jobs that are active but pay around $13-15 an hour?? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

Matt

I don't have any specific ideas, but the OSHA website has job requirements for EVERY job they can come up with, including whether there's a future in it and average pay ranges. I strongly recommend you take a look there.

Maybe retail sales? Or real estate? Or surveyor?

Good luck.

What about computer installations? Can you not get a job as a Computer Engineer, where you go from site to site upgrading and repairing Servers Or something where you are driving around a lot. The only other thing I can think of retail but the pay is not very good. Postman? But then the pay wouldn't be too good.

I know I find driving therapeutic I'm depressed.

I know what you mean because the more depressed I am the more I can't sit still. I used to work at IBM and when I was at my lowest point I was always finding some excuse to get up and move around. A few times I practically ran out of the building, got in my car and just drove and drove around for about an hour.

Librarian? You must be constantly moving around and doing things there.

I do voluntary work at a cancer research shop and I'm constantly moving around there, emptying big bags of clothes, hanging them, sorting them, sorting out the shop etc. It does help I must admit (not enough though). Can you not get a job as a manager in Retail?

It's difficult isn't it when you have to try and accommodate this stupid illness.

Two years and you can be an RN and you'll never sit down even school is mostly on your feet. And most of your credits will probably switch over. And after the first year maybe sooner you could be a Certified Nursing Assistant. Now that job you could qualify for in a few months and believe me it's hard work. Good luck and try the work board too? Love Phillipa

Yeah nursing, waitressing, bar work, supermarket work (but not the check-outs) are all active. I don't know what they pay in the states.

Or you could think about some kind of foresty work, farming, picking fruit.... that kind of thing?

Geology stuff is also pretty active.

Don't remember what it pays hourly, but I did catering when I was younger and it ended up paying pretty well since you split the tips at the end. You won't get bored because you're running around the whole time.
