new job: drug test

Posted by ashleystives on October 12, 2006, at 12:16:31

Hi! I'm freaking. I have anxiety and panic disorder (effexor xr 300mg/day) and am leaving my current job which is making me have the first "active" panic attacks I've had since being on effexor - racing heart, the works. I've been on klonopin for 10 days to IMMENSE relief and just got word yest that I got a new job. They drug test, so I stopped taking the klonopin immediately (last dose: 1/2 .5 pill) yest am. Now I'm afraid that I'll fail, which of course, is only making my anxiety worse. Any help would be appreciated - thanks!!

Hi ashleystives,

Welcome to babble!

I successfully passed employment drug tests on Effexor XR (375mgs- yikes!) What they are really screening for are illegal drugs (cocaine, Marijuana, etc.) so you should pass with no problem being on prescription meds like Effexor and klonopin.

Good luck with the new job. I'm starting one, too. No drug test, though, but I know I'd pass it like I did that last two times. They are anxiety provoking!

thanks! i know, it's like a dog chasing its tail ... i'm leaving here b/c of a crazy passive-aggressive boss - now i have a new job, and have anxiety, but don't want to take my klonopin in case i fail then i'm out of a job! i have a friend who works for the same co who told me not to worry about the SSRIs but i'm laying off the klonopin (of course, i'm anxious as all hell.) so glad i found this board!

I've only had to take one or two of these and each time they ask you to list the prescription drugs that you're currently taking. I wouldn't worry too much about it. As the previous poster said, they are only looking for illegal drugs.

Good luck with the new job! :-)

I tested positive when I was on Adderall, had to explain why I was on it to someone in HR, but that wasn't too big a deal...but now I'm out of work due to unrealistic demands, which I have to remind myself of, since I usually say it was my inability to cope, which is self deprecating. We have to remind ourselves that many times we are forced to leave a work situation to "save" ourselves.

from what i was told, i have to go to a separate medical facility and do a urine test. he said they only test "for illegal drugs." i had to take a klonopin today, my current job was so bad and i had a series of panic episodes all day. i couldn't take the "heart attack" feeling anymore, despite deep breathing and long walks. thanks so much everyone for the feedback. it really helps to know you're not alone!

Hi ashleystives,

I took clonazepam to get through the job interviews. I'm hoping I won't need it at the new job. I sure needed it at the old one, but I am out of there and am not looking back.
